The 2013 Calif Association of Realtors Winter Meetings took place in Monterey Feb. 23-26.• Attending from DAR were Ron Keefer (President Elect), Cecily Tippery (Immediate Past President), James Britto(Treasurer), John Bedford (Association Executive), and me. In addition, at the state level were RalphGarrow and Darnella Barnes.

Many hot topics were discussed, and our members need to be aware of some of the more pressing issues we will be facing in 2013. This year, as in previous years, the government will be looking for ways to increase revenues, and our industry will once again be in the crosshairs.

The Mortgage Interest Deduction is safe for this year, but I can bet it will be re-visited for 2014. Imagine how many buyers will be out of the market if this very important tax benefit is taken from them. With the market beginning to show some signs of recovery, this would be bad policy for everyone associated with the Real Estate Industry. Luckily, we have a strong lobby at both the State & National level that will fight this with everything we have. If you are not a contributor to the Realtor® Action Fund (RAF) I would suggest you do so. $148 goes a long way to financing the future of our industry. If you need more information contact Tonia at the association office.

There was talk of breaking down the continuing education for license renewal from 45 to 48 hours, with 12 hrs being

needed annually. This will keep license holders more connected with the market instead of cramming everything in one week before their license is set to expire. Twelve hours of this will be provided free

of charge. There were discussions about:• Tightening the standards for a Real Estate & Brokers License, making that License more comprehensive.• Possibly setting up an apprentice program, where the Licensee can practice while learning under the guidance of an

associate licensee.• Holding banks accountable for disclosures. If the bank is aware of a problem with a property, they will be required to disclose such knowledge. Without a doubt this will be a hard fought issue but ultimately the right thing for the consumer.

Good News: CAR membership is up 3% over the previous year. This creates a stronger body and a louder voice when it comes to policy decisions at National, State & Local levels. Remember: Strength in numbers! When you receive a request from any of the Associations, please respond. Make our voices heard.

There were many other issues, but not enough time to present them all here. If you would like to hear more, please let me know We will deliver to you, our members, the information you need to keep you up to date in the industry.

First Annual DAR Crab Feed!

The First Annual Delta Association of REALTORS®

Crab Feed was an evening filled with good wine,

lots of crab, fun music, and friendship!

The event drew agents from the Association as well

as their family and friends. Held Saturday, February

23, at the Prewett Family Water Park in Antioch,

attendees enjoyed food prepared by Catering by

Marijane, and wine and beer sponsored by Property

ID, the premier beverage sponsor.

Additional support was provided by our “Friends

of DAR,”

Fidelity

National

Home

Warranty

(Phyllis

Miller) and

firstannualcrabfeed! Phyllis Miller,

Fidelity National Home Warranty, and Patrick Pourol

Old Republic Home Protection (Riz Nauman). Kelly Park,

pianist, provided enjoyable music for the evening.

Plans are being made for next year’s event, which will be

an expanded version of this year’s event. We’re looking

forward to this event getting bigger and better each year.

We’ll be searching out committee volunteers and sponsors

later this summer, so keep a watch out for opportunities

to become involved.

Funds raised through

this event support the
