Americans depend on their automobiles to get them to work, transport the children to school, pick up groceries, mail, and here in Delta Junction, make those monthly Fairbanks trips for doctor appointments and other necessities. Troy and Rhonda Swearingten, owners of Cable Guy Towing and Recovery know this only too well. Troy was born and raised in Delta, but later moved to Oregon where he met Rhonda in Baker City. They moved back to Delta Junction to be closer to family and opened Cable Guy Towing and Recovery in 2005.

“We saw there was a real need for an auto repair service in Delta,” said Rhonda. “While we did have some services in town there wasn’t enough to meet the need.” And so Aces Automotive Services came about. They have been in operation for 28 months, opening June 1

st of 2009 and have done countless oil changes, general auto repair and computer

diagnostics.

“We truly enjoy the people contact and taking care of people,” Rhonda said. “It is a good feeling when you repair a vehicle for someone who know now as the ways and means to get to town and out and about.”

Rhonda stressed they are not in competition with other local mechanics. She explained they collaborate, working together to keep this community running and on the road. Aces Automotive Services employs three and admits the biggest daily challenge they face is getting parts.

“I think that is something we all face in Delta Junction,” smiled Rhonda. “Trying to get parts and supplies in a timely manner. But we continually try and do our best.”

Aces Automotive also does suspension work, and tire alignments. They are located at 1629 Richardson Ave. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays by appointment. Aces can be reached at 895-4999.

We are looking for gold rush era photographs to use in our film "Love of Life" that recently completed

production in Delta Junction and Fort Greely. Individuals, the Delta Chamber of Commerce and the

Sullivan Roadhouse, will be given full credit for their use. I have made a few phone calls, but have yet to

find the pictures we need. Please contact me ASAP if you have any possibilities.

And, thanks again to the wonderful people of the Delta Junction area for your help in making our film.

Especially Phebe Horschol, Travis Hoague, Steve Dubois and Lou Ann Fett who were so helpful and

crucial to our production.

I have attached a followup news release and photo.

News release: November 13, 2011

Love of Life productions of Grand Rapids, Michigan, recently finished production of the full-

length feature film “Love of Life,” based on the short story of the same name by Jack London. The

film is currently in post-production.

The adaptation, written by Robert Gregg, Escanaba, Michigan, and directed by Kevin Swigert,

Sun Valley, Idaho, was shot on location in the Delta Junction area and on Fort Greely.

The plot focuses on a gold miner from 1903 who leaves his claim late in the year, is abandoned by

his partner, and must survive the hardships of Alaska to make it back to his fiancé in Fairbanks.

Over the course of the film, the starving man becomes delusional and in the end he struggles not

only against the wilderness, but also against himself to survive.

The tag line for the motion picture is “Where there’s hope, there’s life.”

“The shoot went beyond our expectations,” said Robert Gregg, who is also the film’s producer.

“We had a great crew from L.A. and Anchorage that worked well together. They are true profes-

sionals and it showed in the production quality.”

Anchorage crew included Tim Boese, Sound Mixer; Tom Pillifant, first AC; Cail Hubert, key grip;

and Jerry Levine.

Gregg also expressed thanks to the citizens of Delta Junction, Alaska, and especially to the army at

Fort Greely, Alaska.

“The people of Delta Junction and the military made us feel welcomed,” Gregg said. “We would

film there again in a heartbeat. Police chief Travis Hoague and the military at Fort Greely went

above and beyond the call of duty."

Delta residents directly involved in Love of Life included Phebe Horschol and Steve DuBois, who

played roles in the film, and Lou Ann Fett who was instrumental in setting up the final scene at

Sullivan's Roadhouse.

Love of Life's director of photography was Jeffrey Smith of Los Angeles. Roarke Boes, also of Los

Angeles, was the first assistant director.

“Pete’s performance was extraordinary,” said director Swigert. “He set an example for the crew

every day, and we felt obligated to also give our best.”

Executive producers, all from Michigan, include Robert Schellenberg; Ken Meshigaud, CEO of the

Hannahville Indian Community; and Jeff and Rosalie Naser.

The film is being edited and then the musical score will be added before its theatrical release.

Love of Life will premiere in Michigan in April, 2012. Premieres are also planned for Alaska and Los

Angeles.
