Chemring is a global group that specialises in the manufacture of countermeasures, sensors and electronics, and energetic systems. We provide a range of high technology products for specific customer requirements in aerospace, defence and security markets in more than 50 countries. Chemring companies are involved in major defence development programmes around the world. Our portfolio is constantly developing to counter emerging threats, reflecting our commitment to meet new needs and situations. We are continually developing products that offer greater flexibility and portability to meet the demands of modern warfare. With a growing proliferation of threat types, our strategy is to develop high reliability detection and defeat technologies building on our leading improvised explosive devices (IED), electronic warfare (EW), chemical/biological and cyber detection and decoy capabilities.

Chemring’s core capabilities are in the development, test and manufacture of force protection and energetic material products

We apply these capabilities to the manufacture of base energetic materials, compositions, components, systems and complete systems, ranging from tiny detonators to advanced Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for the detection of buried explosive threats. We also provide products and services across the full lifecycle of products from their inception through to final safe disposal.

ALWAYS READY TO RESPOND TO THE NEEDS OF TODAY’S ARMED FORCES AND SECURITY SERVICESOriginally founded in 1905, Chemring Group employs approximately 3,000 people at sites in the UK, US, Norway and Australia. Due to the changing nature of global threats, Chemring has always developed its volume manufacturing in line with the need to be flexible and respond rapidly. We have a long history of rapid response. Within weeks of the start of the Falklands Conflict, Chemring opened a new factory to provide aluminium glass chaff-countermeasures against sea skimming anti-ship missiles that were threatening the British fleet. Chemring moved into IR decoys in 1986 by acquiring pyrotechnics specialists Pains Wessex and later Hayley & Weller. In 1991, Chemring was again able to respond with increased output during the first Gulf War. With over 50% of the world market, Chemring Group is the largest supplier of advanced expendable countermeasures in the world.

We have also added capabilities in adjacent markets including: chemical, biological and IED detection and most recently electronic warfare and cyber-security. All require reliability in use, to work first-time, every time, and all require safety in transport, handling and storage.

THE WORLD LEADER IN EXPENDABLE COUNTERMEASURES

NAVALChemring is a world leader in the provision of naval anti-ship missile countermeasures or ‘soft kill’ expendables for protecting warships. We are the prime supplier of passive RF/IR decoys to the Royal Navy, many NATO and other navies throughout the world. Chemring’s latest 130mm naval countermeasure innovations include development of a wide range of tailored payloads such as extended frequency range chaff and multi-payload rounds containing chaff, IR or obscurants. The rounds feature a highly variable height and range capability which is controlled by algorithms within the combat management system. This data is transferred via the rounds’ interface. These new capabilities are further optimised when deployed from Chemring’s fully trainable 130mm launcher – CENTURION®. The design of advanced rounds, in conjunction with the launcher development, optimises system performance and therefore the probability of escaping hit. This combination offers the ultimate passive solution to counter current, emerging and future missile threats.

AIROur comprehensive product range is based on proven threat driven solutions to protect all types of air platforms. We have optimised our products to support the challenges of modern air missions and offer mission specific capabilities including day and night visual covertness and tailored spectral characteristics.

SUPPORTWe are proud to be a pioneer in the design and manufacture of passive RF expendable countermeasure materials and payloads. Chemring was the first expendable IR decoy flare manufacturer to introduce full automation to the decoy manufacturing process in a manner that delivers advances in safety and quality not seen before. ENERGETICS

WORLD-CLASS PRODUCTS, SYSTEMS AND CAPABILITIES USING ENERGETIC MATERIALChemring’s energetic systems are safety-critical components of missiles, aircraft and space launch systems. Operators and prime contractors depend on Chemring’s very high reliability, single-use devices to perform key functions, including satellite deployment, aircrew egress and missile self-destruct. Chemring also manufactures a range of pyrotechnic products which are used by militaries and security forces around the world for screening, signalling and illumination. In addition, the Group produces a specialist range of high explosive products, including mine-field clearance systems, demolition stores and 40mm grenades.

ENERGETIC SYSTEMS Energetic Raw Materials

Chemring manufacturers raw energetic materials and has a range of base products including HMX, RDX, NTO, Alkyl-NENAs. Based on these materials, Chemring can produce formulations that are well adapted to customer needs in terms not only of safety and sensitivity but also performance and manufacturing. Space

Chemring is a leading space component supplier, with a 55 year heritage proven through space programmes. Chemring actuators, thrusters and retractors are used on a number of significant NASA and ESA programmes including the Atlas, Delta and Titan family of launch vehicles, space exploration vehicles and satellites. Aircrew Egress / Safety

Chemring designs and manufactures a range of safety systems used in emergency situations including crew egress. These products are supported by our safety testing equipment, including communications and oxygen supply testing. Missile components

Chemring supplies a wide range of high quality, high reliability, zero maintenance components supporting a number of missile, bomb and torpedo programmes across an international military customer base. We also supply rocket motors and have a strong track record in fuze and warhead design, manufacture and integration. Pyromechanical Actuators

METRON Actuators contain energetic material and are designed to produce a high mechanical work output through rapid movement of a piston. They are electrically actuated and will operate within milliseconds of receiving the appropriate impulse, a rate which is almost impossible to achieve with a mechanical source of energy. Their compact size, high reliability and good environmental resistance make METRON Actuators ideal for use in Fire Protection, Security, Safety, Automotive and Aerospace applications.

Chemring has an extensive portfolio of products that covers illumination, signalling, search and rescue, screening, training, law enforcement and high energy products. Our screening and obscuring products can be used for rapid and highly effective concealment of troops and equipment in the visual, infra-red and laser wavelengths during operations and training. Law enforcement

Chemring manufactures a range of non-lethal security products for military and law enforcement applications. Products include: CS Smoke Pellets; Baton rounds; Rubber Bursting CS Grenades; Vehicle launched grenades; and Stun grenades.

Mine & obstacle breaching systems

Chemring is the leading manufacturer of man-portable Obstacle Breaching Systems for quickly clearing safe passageways through anti-personnel minefields, IED threat areas, multi-strand wire and other obstacles. Reusable, inert training versions are also available. Demolition stores

Chemring has developed a complete capability in demolition stores to meet the needs of military and commercial users for Explosive Ordnance Disposal, field engineering and demolition.

We provide a full range of explosive products from initiation systems to main charges, both bulk explosive and cutting charges.
