What Is Delegation?

Delegation is the ability to reassign certain tasks and approvals in Workday to another qualified individual. This can simply be for efficiency (long term), or to cover your responsibilities when you are out of the office (short term).

§ Once assigned, the delegate can act on behalf of their delegator, but can only perform the specific action(s) delegated to them.

§ The delegator will continue to see tasks and notifications in their Workday Inbox, but can rely on the delegate to handle this work.

§ Action items and notifications for delegated tasks will also be sent through email to both the delegate and delegator.

Talent and performance management

Start performance evaluation, complete manager evaluation, manage competencies

§ A member of the direct work unit who has knowledge of unit personnel and operations. The person must be able to maintain appropriate confidentiality.

§ Typically, a delegate would be an assistant manager, supervisor, lead, and/or administrative support personnel who reports directly to the manager who is delegating the work.

§ The delegator is accountable for all work they delegate.§ Both the delegator and the delegate should have an awareness of the work and theassignments.

§ Both the delegator and the delegate will continue to see actions and notifications inWorkday.

Who Is Responsible for Delegated Work?

§ Delegates cannot subsequently delegate to another person, nor do delegated tasks automatically cascade.

§ Delegates do NOT have complete visibility to all functions of the delegator.§ Delegates can neither initiate nor approve managerial tasks for themselves.

Delegation set up asks for an alternate delegate to handle these situations.

§ Determine the delegate(s) and alternate delegate(s).§ Determine what functions you wish to delegate.§ Discuss with your delegate what you expect them to approve and/or initiate.§ Meet with your Business Partner if you need assistance or want a walk-through in

Workday.§ Submit the delegation request in Workday.§ Ensure that you have the most recent Medical Center Manager How Do I § Note that you must be a supervisor in Workday to have a delegate set up for you.

Enter a Delegation: View your worker profile and click on the Actions button.

Hover over business process and click My Delegations.

In the My Delegations screen click the Manage Delegations button.

1. Enter today’s date and the end date which should be one year out. 2. Select the Delegate and Alternate Delegate. Uncheck Use Default Alternate.3. Select all (Ctrl, ALT, A held down while clicking a selection) or individual tasks you

wish to delegate.4. Select For all Business Processes.5. Click Retain Access to Delegated Tasks in Inbox.6. Select Submit.
