Margarita Nights

With the weather being as hot as it has been lately, it feels like the Summer Season is coming early this year. What a better way to welcome in this warm weather, than was a cool margarita in hand and listening to the sounds of Summer. On Saturday, April 25

th the residents of Del Webb Orlando were certainly

in a “margarita state of mind” courtesy of the Margarita Boys. The Margarita Boys are a six-piece band fronted by Rick Erickson on acoustic guitar and vocals. Other instruments include electric guitar, banjo, keyboards, bass and drums. Their rich harmonies combined with a unique blend of acoustic and electric sounds have been heard at Central Florida's most famous venues -- Disney, House of Blues and perform weekly at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville at Universal’s City Walk. Rick explains, “We usually just kinda

read the crowd while we’re performing”. “It’s fun, interactive, high energy with a lot of audience participation. When we play we throw in a mixture of fun, upbeat, festive party music.” From tropical to rock, top 40 to country hits ...the Margarita Boys never stray

far from the sand and surf and had our residents swaying to the sounds of Jimmy Buffett to Johnny Cash. The margaritas were certainly flowing all throughout the evening as residents of Del Webb Orlando had the opportunity to participate in the Margarita Bar. With options of salt to no salt, there was something pleasing for all our margarita tasters. This SOLD OUT event was the

With the Summer Season fast approaching we are gearing up for a “fantastic” Q2 Lifestyle Program! To some extent, any community-wide event touches everyone who lives here whether you choose to participate or not. In that respect, in the coming weeks, I’ll be making available the 2015 Lifestyle Survey. Over the past few years, this yearly survey allows residents to provide feedback on the overall Lifestyle Program. Questions are typically tailored towards Lifestyle and have started off very broad in scope, though each year we’ve narrowed our

question fields to provide the Association more useful data. The answers from these questions will provide the Association a snapshot as to how the lifestyle program is being evaluated by residents and how we can consistently improve the lifestyle program. This survey will be made available to residents via email and for those residents who prefer the “old fashion” hard copy surveys to fill out, those will be made available to pick up at the Resident Services Desk.

I would like to direct your attention to the Summer Upcoming Lifestyle Poster that has been inserted below. I’ve gone ahead and laid out the entire summer schedule for lifestyle events up through the month of August. The summer schedule will have a mix of entertainment shows, club cookouts by the Tailgaters Club and community gathering events with fellow residents. So we are a little ahead of the game somewhat, but I would like to emphasize the importance of registering early for events. We have some fantastic shows coming up throughout the Summer months and these events tend to sell out early.

I’m excited to announce our Eat to the Beat: Pool Deck Parties that we’ve scheduled throughout the Summer season kicking off on Sunday, May 3rd from 11 AM to 3 PM featuring Monsta Lobsta Food Truck and music by Tom Evans, Solo Guitarist. This Summer Season, the pool deck comes alive showcasing different types of live music, which will keep your feet moving whether you’re in the water or not. Paired alongside the music, is a variety of food trucks that we’ve scheduled to come out this season. Each pool deck party will showcase a different food truck and prices for food are very reasonable.

Here’s to a fun and fantastic SUMMER!!

Best Regards,

Eric Baker - Lifestyle Director

I would like to say thank you for the many warm welcomes I have received from both the community and the team since becoming part of Del Webb Orlando. While I have been working diligently to learn all of the key aspects of how the community thrives, simple reminders keep surfacing which could aid in strengthening our dynamic relationships and improve future opportunities for success: 1. Be Generous 2. Volunteer 3. Be Aware 4. Be Considerate 5. Get Involved 6. Communicate With the month of April showers coming to a close (both literally and figuratively) I think we can expect to see many new flowers blooming soon. Growth and change can be challenging...yet I think we all can agree that given time; it can also be rewarding. That being said, there are several projects pending completion with several more being suggested. I look forward to seeing all of them through to their respective revelations of rewards. Del Webb in Review has been a great avenue for communicating what has happened in the past; and also what is to come in the future. The month of May will bring Del Webb in Review back to life with a different name - All Aboard with Alex. The content will be useful in our journey as we work together to keep the community on the right track. The iconic steam whistle will symbolize my monthly meetings in the life-style calendar as we are all aboard moving together to making this community a better place to live.

Since we had to cancel last week’s meeting due to an unexpected pop-up meeting that required my attend-ance, I’ve gone ahead and scheduled a make-up meeting for Monday, May 11th at

10 AM.

Wow, I cannot believe we have been on the property for one

month. I guess it is true what they say, time flies when you are having

fun! We have met many great residents this past month and look

forward to meeting everyone else. Thank you for working with us as we get to know the community.

It does not look like we are going to get much of a spring this year as the temperatures are already hovering in the 90’s.

With the higher temperatures and the afternoon rains the turf and plant material is growing rapidly. It also brings out

many weeds. We are working to control them systematically, as we work through our detail cycles. Your property should

be detailed approximately every 3 weeks.

If you ever have any questions or concerns you can use our customer service system or contact your HOA and we will

do our best to help. We appreciate the opportunity we are afforded, servicing this beautiful community.

A Message from Resident Board Member: Mary Weber

On April 1, 2015 at the Del Webb Orlando Annual Meeting, it was announced that a

homeowner in the community named Mary Weber was appointed to serve as the first home-

owner HOA Board Member. Needless to say, the days leading up to this announcement

were exhilarating ones for me personally.

To back up a bit, as you may recall, a request went out in January to all of the DWO

community members to consider applying for the HOA Board Member position. I decided to proceed and filled out an

application, submitted a resume and then received an offer to interview for the appointment. During that interview there

were four main points that I attempted to make: First, we have an outstanding community filled with wonderful people

and that it is important to preserve what we have into the long range future by making fiscally responsible decisions.

Second, we as residents of a 55 plus community have many wonderful talents, experiences and wisdom that can and

should be tapped into as a resource. Third, let’s collaboratively work to enhance communication to all parties. Finally,

as the potential first HOA Board Member it would be my intention to serve as a historian for the process, i.e. Remember-

ing and perhaps recording/documenting the rationale for the critical decisions made over the years for future reference.

Several days after the interview I received a call from the President of the HOA, Carlos Gregory, with the invita-

tion to join the HOA Board. I accepted this honor and have now begun the journey.

There is much to learn and understand. At this point in time I have begun the process of learning what each

member of our management team’s role and responsibilities are. Understanding the operational side of our community I

think is critical. I have also appreciated listening to the thoughts and ideas and concerns of our residents. As mentioned

earlier, there are many talents in this community that can only contribute and enhance creative problem solving to a bet-

ter end.

As this journey continues, I look forward to sharing information with you through a monthly Message From Mary

column. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me personally. Your thoughts, ideas and contributions can

only serve to help us collaborate on maintaining and enhancing Del Webb Orlando as a phenomenal community in which

to live. With much respect.

Mary K. Weber

Del Webb Orlando is where it’s happening! April has turned out to be a crazy month… I guess folks are really wanting to avoid this next winter.

Our old model park neighborhood is down to just 3 old models and 2 available home sites, while the latest phase (2A) is more than half way through! These new plans are starting to take off, and why wouldn’t they?!? They are Consumer Inspired® and Life Tested ®. We are down to just the final one home site in Vista Grande and around a dozen spots in Vista Alta.

As most of you know, the Fed is finally saying that rates will be going up in the coming months, and pricing for new homes is still slowly increasing. No bet-ter time to purchase a home than now. Hopefully all of our visitors will see that and take advantage of these great opportunities.

If you know anyone that would like to taste the Del Webb lifestyle here at our community, we are still offering great stay and play rates. Do you have any friends or family that could benefit from living at Del Webb? Have them give us a call and we’ll set them right up. They can book a 5 night stay here on premise and really see if for themselves, for the price of only 4 nights. We’re now booking Ex-plore Del Webb stays into early summer 2015. AND… as some of you know, if your referral turns into a future resident, we will donate $250 to your club of choice!

Thanks again for being great Del Webb residents, you truly make this a great place to be!

Carlos Puente - DWO Selling Sales Manger

Hi! We are John & Sandy McAllister. We coordinate the Explore Del Webb (EDW) program and also the Resident Ambassador Team here at Del Webb Orlando (DWO). You can often find us in the Montecito Clubhouse – checking guests in, giving tours, walking back & forth through the exercise room to our office, or just having fun. In 2011 Pulte decided to build several small houses that would be dedicated to the use of guests visiting our community. The Explore Del Webb Program provides an opportunity for people who are thinking about retiring to a 55+ community in FL to stay here, immerse themselves for several days in the lifestyle we enjoy every day, meet some of our amazing residents, and participate in as many of our lifestyle activities as their time permits. In addition, they may choose to go to dinner with a Resident Ambassador where they have the opportunity to enjoy that one-on-one contact, make friends, and get the answers to lots of their lifestyle related questions. If you think you might like to be a Resident Ambassador, we will be taking applications this summer for the year 9/15-8/16. Watch for more information. When the Explore Del Webb Program began here in late 2011, we were asked to be the coordinators. Since that time we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming approximately 400 people a year to Del Webb Orlando. When guests return for a second or occasionally even a third visit, we are always delighted to see them again. The nicest thing is that some of our EDW guests become our DWO neighbors and our friends! We truly believe DWO is the best place we have ever lived. This is a caring and compassionate community. While we certainly don’t all agree on everything, our residents are gracious, accepting, and forgiving. It’s the people here that set this community apart, and we welcome both our visitors and our newcomers to share in what we already have and to help us become even better. Thank you DWO!

“Spirit of America” Featuring Gary McKechnie (Speaking Event)

Gary McKechnie has spent a lifetime following in the footsteps of legend-

ary reporter Charles Kuralt. One of America’s leading travel writers and passion-

ate speakers, he is the author of two of the nation’s most ambitious travel guides:

Great American Motorcycle Tours, which remains the best-selling motorcycle

guidebook in the nation; and National Geographic’s USA 101, an in-depth look at

101 quintessentially American places, events, and festivals. And whether he’s on

the road from Maine to Washington or California to the Florida Keys, his unique

voice keeps readers and audiences entertained and inspired with incredible sto-

ries of American innovation, imagination, and perseverance. Using his experi-

ence as a stand-up comedian and improv actor, Gary connects with groups and

condenses decades of exploration into intriguing presentations that have the power to enlighten audiences, pique their

curiosity, and fire their imagination with the magic of possibility and American ingenuity.

Combined with the scope of his travels and research, his affiliation with leading brands such as Harley-

Davidson, Cunard, Disney, AAA, and National Geographic generates interest from local media. As a comedian, em-

cee, and frequent guest, Gary understands how to deliver stories that are guaranteed to please both talent coordina-

tors and audiences. Whether the topic is travel, the business of history, motivating people to embrace life, or instilling

a sense of pride in the United States, his appearances and presentations are engaging, enlightening, and inspiring.

Community Service Club The Community Service Club has had a busy late March and early April. Two projects have been undertaken and completed while two ongoing projects had important events occur during this timeframe. The first project undertaken and completed was the EASTER CANDY COLLECTION AND DISTRIBUTION. Under the direction of Melanie McElvany, Easter candy was collected and placed inside treat bags for distribution to approximately 140 area elementary school children. We hear the distribution went well and more importantly many area elementary children enjoyed some sweet treats, put-ting a huge smile on their faces. Thanks to all DWO resi-dents who contributed candy or volunteered their time with the bagging and distribution of the candy. The second project undertaken and concluded was a BAKE SALE held in conjunction with the April 15 Farmer’s Market. A goal of raising enough proceeds to feed an elementary school child for the 2015-2016 school year through the Green Bag Project was reached. The Club appreciates the support of our friends and neighbors. BRANDYWINE NURSING HOME, an ongoing project of the Community Service Club saw 12 volunteers journey to the Brandywine Nursing Home on April 13 to conduct Wheel Chair Horse Racing with the residents. The residents were engaged and excited during the competition and enjoyed snacks at the conclusion of the event. The next function at Brandywine will occur in July at which patri-otic songs will be sung and enjoyed by all. THE GREEN BAG PROJECT, another ongoing project of the Community Service club held a Sandwich and More Event on March 31. The event was a great suc-cess with over 60 persons attending. Angela P., the repre-sentative from Horizons Elementary, did an amazing job of speaking to the attendees. Currently 40 children are being fed on the weekends with the goal of expanding to feeding 50 children for the 2015-2016 school year. The Green Bag Project Steering Committee is enthused by the DWO resi-dents’ strong supportive response to addressing childhood hunger. During the past month members indicated that 93 hours of service to the greater area community was provid-ed in Community Service activities. As a club we are pleased to share that during the first four months of 2015, 382 hours of service to the greater area community has been provided. Phenomenal! The Community Service Club meets the third Tues-day of each month at 9:00 a.m. inside the Montecito Club-house with new members always welcome. Help the Com-munity Service Club continue to make a difference in the Polk County area. For more information or to get involved, contact any club officer: Jerry Fuqua, Mary Weber, Maureen Dodd or Gay Yannuzzelli. Submitted by Mary K. Weber

Computer Club The DWO Computer Club will be meeting Thurs-day, May 7th this month at the Clubhouse Ballroom, Movie Screen/Kitchen side at 11 am. Linda Yatsko, Vice President of the DWO Sharp Shooters Photography Club, will be giving a presentation on PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS for your computers and digi-tal photos. Photoshop Elements is a photo graphics edi-tor for hobbyists and consumers. It contains most of the features of the professional Photoshop version, but with fewer and simpler options. The program allows users to create, edit, organize and share images/photos. For those interested in Photoshop Elements as a photo editing tool for their desktop computer and/or laptops, and for those who have Photoshop Elements and want to learn more about it (bring your laptops), and for those who just would like to see how it works, this Computer Club presen-tation is for you. Anyone at DWO can attend, the first 2 Computer Club meetings are free. If you would like to join the DWO Computer Club, the cost is $10 per household per year. Hope to see you there! Pennsylvania Club We are starting the process of chartering at DWO a Pennsylvania Club, similarly modeled on the DWO Wisconsin Club. In order to get a good feel for the number of residents who would be interested in join-ing a Pennsylvania Club, we would like to get initial feedback from potential members. The club would be open to all residents of DWO who came from PA, have lived in PA sometime in their life, have worked in PA, have relatives in PA, or who just enjoy visit-ing or being with Keystoners (maybe you live in NJ but root for the Phillies, or live in West Virginia and root for the

Steelers, or visit the Civil War monuments at Gettysburg from Maryland and Virginia, or your children went to college in PA). Anyone at Del Webb Orlando with a passion and love for PA are welcome. If you are interested in being in a Pennsylvania Club, please e-mail me at [email protected]. Then we can start the chartering process. Many thanks and hope to hear from all you DWO Keystoners and friends of Keystoners! Respectfully, Ken Lyons (from Muhlenberg Township outside of Reading, PA in Berks County) Submitted by Ken Lyons

Sharing Stitches Club

Sharing Stitches members meet weekly to make various items donated to local hospitals and animal shelters. Linda Carman is one of our most industrious stitchers, crocheting approximately 30 items per month. The members tease her that she must crochet in her sleep. Once, during a meeting, she was challenged to crochet a baby cap in one hour, and she was successful! Linda says she learned to crochet early in her nursing career. She worked at a hospital where her mother was also a nurse, and she would often donate crocheted baby items to the Nuns at the hospital to raffle or sell for their various charities. She shared that it made her mother nervous that she was crocheting baby items and was skeptical thinking that they were really for the Nuns. Her favorite items to crochet are baby hats because they are quick to do and cute, and baby blankets. She usually crochets while watching TV. Thanks Linda, for sharing your time and talent. Recipleasers Food and travel go together like love and marriage;

You can’t have one without the other! Food and travel enables one to learn about different coun-tries, regions and areas around the world and to experi-ence their culture. This leads to a greater understanding and respect among people. After all: “Food is a central activity of mankind and one of the single most significant trademarks of a cul-ture.” (Mark Kurlansky) Although each region has its own distinctive culture and cuisine, people still have their preferences.

French Cuisine French cooking is considered the ‘”crème de la crème” of the culinary world. It has its roots in the Middle Ages and became popular during the French Revolution. Good pas-tries, cheese, bread and wine are its specialty. Neverthe-less from my traveling experiences, food presentation and size of the portions are what makes this cuisine tops. Full course dinners are served, but the portions are small. Thus one is satisfied but not stuffed!

Italian Cuisine Known for its famous Parmigiana Reggiano and 300 types of sausage, Italian cuisine is ancient. Its roots stretch back to the 4

th Century B.C. The discovery of the New World

introduced different ingredients to the Italian diet. Unlike French cooking, Italian cuisine serves large portions for its

many dishes per course. Again from my travels beware of how much you eat when dining in Italy! Other cuisines, Chinese, Spanish, Mexican, Greek, Thai, etc., all have their own food history and tastes. Reci-pleasers and their guests will be “traveling around the world” learning about different cultures and experiencing various foods on Friday, May 8

th, the evening for Interna-

tional Dishes. Everyone will surely enjoy this tasting event with excellent traditional dishes and good conversation among friends.

Remember Travel and food go together

However “Food is our common ground, a universal experience.”

Tennis Group Our Tennis residents had a well-attended organizational meeting and have decided to go forward with applying for a charter. Antoinette Zervoulis and Mick McGuire have volunteered to handle the administration and organizational aspects of the program. We are very fortunate to have a resident Del Webber, Grant Karcher, who’s a tennis professional, volunteer to coordinate our instructional, and playing time. It doesn’t get any better than this. The group decided to meet for instruction and play every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 am to 12:00 PM. Come on over and enjoy the instruction, exercise and camaraderie. For more information please contact Mick McGuire or Antoinette

Zervoulis

Yoga helps in reducing heart rate and lowering blood pressure as well as building strength, improving balance and promoting a sense of calm and well being. As with any exercise program, it is best to consult with your physician if you have any concerns/questions.

Wiffleball is played with plastic wiffleballs and a plastic bat. Like baseball you bat and catch the balls. However, there is no running (no bases). Hits are determined by how far the ball travels. Pitches are underhand, high and easy like slow pitch softball. Games are 5 innings with 6 outs per inning, and with a 5-run limit per inning. Anyone who loves playing baseball is invited to play. New teams picked every Sunday. Competitive but not really. More fun than anything. For more information, contact Ken Lyons at [email protected]. See you at the park!

Wizard Card Group Several new folks have come out for the Thursday afternoon fun. The game can be played with 3, 4, 5 or 6 players at a table and all are welcome. Wisconsin Club The Wisconsin Club did it again. Two fun filled get togethers in the month of April. The first was on April 12th. Our Wisconsin Club Birthday Bash celebrated our second birthday by having a pot-luck lunch with many foods that re-minded us of our beloved state. There was also the always enjoyable White Elephant gift exchange. Plenty of laughs and good times to go around. Our second event, on April 21st, was a pontoon boat cruise leaving from Walt Disney's Contemporary Re-

sort Marina. Eighteen of us were cruising so we had two pon-toon boats skippered by our very own members. We had a Skipper, a Professor, a Millionaire and his wife... so there was some con-cern. Luckily, it wasn't a three hour cruise.

Leaving the Marina we first cruised Bay Lake, go-ing past the now vacant Discovery Island on way to Fort Wilderness Resort area. We then circled back and on to Seven Seas Lagoon. There we cruised over the roadway by Walt Disney's Contemporary Resort and then to the area in front of the Magic Kingdom. Many picture opportunities throughout the cruise, but there is something special about the waterway in front of the Magic Kingdom - all sorts of boats are cruising about you, and the sights and sounds of the monorail, railroad station and castle. Then we ventured on and cruised past the Grand Floridian and Polynesian Resorts, including right past the new Bungalows situated in the waters by the Polynesian Resort. The cruise portion concluded with another trip around Discovery Island and then back to the Marina. But it doesn't end there.... Seems like most of our events have food involved, so we headed up to the Con-tempo Cafe of the Contemporary Resort for a quick lunch. But it wasn't a quick lunch as we were having such a good time enjoying each other's company. Thanks to all of you Wisconsin Club Members that were able to participate in the above events. You made our club events fun, exciting and special. Submitted by Dick Grosek

Snakes In the DWO area and Ridgewood Lakes in general,

you will be pleased to learn that the range maps say we have 25 species of snakes: 4 venomous and 21 non-venomous. The venomous snakes are the eastern dia-mondback rattlesnake, dusky pygmy rattlesnake, cotton-mouth (water moccasin), and coral snake. Shy and secre-tive, they are not common. During my repeated walks through the conservation area here in the last 4 years, I

have seen very few snakes. The black racer and the yellow rat snake (corn snake) are 2 of the most com-mon snakes here. Altogether, Flori-da has 44 species of snakes—6 venomous and 38 non-venomous—compared to Wisconsin, for exam-ple, which has 2 venomous and 19 non-venomous species. Getting bitten by a non-venomous snake is not so bad. But a venomous snake will send you to the hospital, and right quick. A snake can strike about half its body length and recoil in ¼ second.

The diamondback can get 8 ft long, the non-poisonous indigo snake and eastern coachwhip, 8.5 ft long. Most of these snakes are less than 4 ft long. The exotic Burmese python in the Everglades? A big beauty—12 ft

long or longer—highly invasive as it cleans out various species of wildlife, released by some dumb-bells who owned them as “pets,” allowed by dumbbells in govern-ment. Now there’s a big problem as these pythons spread north-ward, interfere with the ecosys-

tem, and alarm humans. Snakes are reptiles, and the only land critters with-

out legs. Thus, their movement is fascinating. Snakes seem to glide and move fast, but they can’t; a human can outrun them easily. Put a snake on a glass table, and it can’t move off. They use several methods to move. The most common is the S-shaped curve used by applying pressure against irregularities on the ground, causing a snake to move almost magically as it converts side-to-side motion to forward movement. A snake also can move by first anchoring its front body scales on a rough surface, bunching up loose skin, anchoring its rear scales, and then sliding its body forward within its skin—a slower movement pattern but useful for stalking and climbing trees. Some snakes can move with a back-to-front rippling motion like a caterpillar. The hognose snake here and the desert side-winder rattlesnake in the West have their own unusual movement pattern to negotiate soft sand. All snakes can swim, with an S-shaped undulation.

A snake can take fairly large prey relative to its body size because the lower jaw comes unhinged to facili-tate swallowing. Some snakes simply grab the prey and begin swallowing it. Others use poison to incapacitate the prey first. Still others are constrictors and grab their prey, curl around it, then squeeze it to suffocation. Snakes help keep the rodent population in control. Lots of things prey on snakes: hawks, herons, egrets, alligators, bobcats, other snakes (kingsnakes in particular).

time. All proceeds from these events serve to directly benefit your community experience. For more information about the Tailgaters Club, please contact Frank Ritchie via email at [email protected]

Trumpsters Bridge Club Bridge is a challenging card game played by four players in competing partnerships. Our Trumpsters Club is a group of novice to intermediate level players who gather each week to have a good time playing “party bridge”. It is our objective to be friendly and welcoming, so if you have any familiarity with the game of bridge, we invite you to join us. There is no need to have a partner, but at this time, we cannot offer lessons for beginners. The Trumpsters Bridge Club meets every Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:45 in the Arts & Crafts Room. For more information please contact Barbara Kleiman or Karen Ratchman.

Vets4Vets Club Vets 4 Vets Club has been established to promote fellowship among the service veterans of our community and those who support our fellow veterans. Our club is comprised of veterans that have served from any country around the world and are currently a resident of Del Webb Orlando, along with nonveteran residents who support our fellow veteran’s commitment and sacrifice for freedom along with their love for the United States of America. Our goal is to promote the ideals of community service, instill the concepts of charity for veterans and promote our Nation and love of country, patriotism and respect for our National flag. We are “Veterans for Veterans”. Please contact Tom Guarino for

more information.

more about picture taking, editing and storing from knowledgeable members, or by excellent video instruction, and get valuable “tips” on becoming a “Sharpshooter”. Then we have a slideshow of members’ pictures taken while on one of the photo field trips to scenic and interesting places here in Polk County and in other areas of Florida planned for that month. The slideshow is for fun and enjoyment only, and to show-off your favorite or best pictures (thus becoming a real “Sharp Shooter”). The DWO Photography Club also supports the entire Del Webb Community by documenting monthly events at Del Webb and creating a photo journal for the viewing enjoyment and pleasure of the entire DWO community. Dues are $10 per member or $15 per household for an entire year. Two club meetings are free to all residents to come to and check-out and meet the current members, and for you to consider if you would like to join. So come to the DWO “Sharp Shooters” Photography Club and see about bringing out the creative genius in you – or just have fun learning about photography and taking pictures. For further information please contact club officers Ken Lyons, President at [email protected] or Beth McTigue, Secretary/Treasurer at [email protected] and Linda Yatsko. See you at the next meeting!

DWO Welcome Club The goal of Welcome Club is to welcome new residents and help them feel at home in Del Webb Orlando by providing an opportunity to meet other residents, learn about our community, and have their questions answered about the community. To facilitate this we have New Resident Socials which are held on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM. The next social will be April 21st at 6:30PM in the ballroom. Finger snacks will be provided. The socials are BYOB events. New residents can attend the socials for up to one year from when they move into their home. It is important to RSVP if you plan to attend the Social if this will be your first time or your tenth time as we need to know the amount of snacks to provide. If you would like to RSVP or get further information about the Welcome Club contact Linda Bisson at [email protected], Susan Holdread, Beth McTigue,

Mah Jong Club LET’S PLAY MAH JONGG !!! Confucius say: Learn new game in 2015! Many people have played the matching tile game of Mah Jongg on a computer. However, there is a different way to play this game, derived from ancient China. The DWO Mah Jongg Club plays by the rules set by the National Mah Jongg League in 1937. Each year, the league changes the playing card slightly to add more interest to the game that is played by millions throughout the world. We use the 152 tile set. The tiles are divided into four groups: Winds, Dragons, Suits, Flowers and then of course, Jokers too! If this sounds fascinating to you…read on… A few sessions of playing at the beginner level will provide the experience needed to play at regular sessions in our clubhouse.

The regular play sessions are held on Mondays 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and Tuesday evenings 6:30 p.m. – 8:45 p.m. Come and join in learning a new skill this year on Fridays 1 – 3 p.m. Contact Mary Peters (trainer) at [email protected] with any questions about the beginner sessions.

Pickled Webbers Pickle Ball Club Would you like to take part in the nation’s fastest-growing sport — a cross between tennis and Ping-Pong? If the answer to this is yes, then the Pickled Webbers Pickleball Club of Del Webb Orlando is the place you want to be. What is Pickleball you ask? Pickleball is a fun game that is played on a badminton court with the net lowered to 34 inches at the center. It is played with a perforated plastic baseball (similar to a whiffle ball) and wood or composite paddles. It is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. Here at Del Webb Orlando the club plays 7 days a week on 4 beautiful lighted courts that were built specifically for Pickleball. At this time the club also has the capability of providing two addition courts on the tennis courts with the use of portable nets. So if you are a beginner to Pickleball, we will teach you. If you are a seasoned veteran, we may beat you. But no matter what your level of play, you are sure to have fun as a member of the Pickled Webbers. Come find out for yourself why so many Del Webb Orlando residents are taking part in America's fastest growing sport. For more information please contact club officers: Tom Guarino, Dennis Borowicz, Charlie Pirrello.

Pottery Club

This club explores the use of molds and free forms to produce novelty, decorative art items. No prior experience with clay is needed but those with prior experience may use this as an opportunity to explore new art forms with ceramics. Clay, molds and art are useful items for your home. Working with clay as the club will demonstrate re-quires no artistic ability only the willingness to follow care-fully described procedures. The important feature is for the fun of participation. The club meets every Friday from 1-3 PM in the Craft Room. If you’re interested in joining the club, please reach out the following residents who will be chairing the club: Robert Saunders, Diane Mansuy, Susan Landrigan or Morris Fanelli.

Recipleasers Club Recipleasers is a club where members and their guests get together with new and old friends to have a tasting event every other month. Each tasting event has a different theme, thus we experience a variety of foods each time. Each member receives a Recipe Booklet consisting of the evening’s recipes for you to make at home. In addition, you and your guest (spouse, neighbor, etc.) spend a wonderful evening with friends and neighbors. Please contact the club officers: Tracy O'Brien (863)424-0260, Doris Moss, Denise Hicks, and Amy Setaro for more information.

Retired Educators Club

Retired Educators Club: Our goal is to raise money for scholarships that will be given to HS seniors interested in going into the field of education. Our meetings are the second Wed. of the month at 10:00 in the craft room. Join us in May on the 12th. Doris Moss 717-713-7951
