“Leadership is the ability to get a person to do what you want him to do, when you want it done, in a way you want it done, because he wants to do it.” (Dwight D. Eisenhower in Galloway 1990, 87).

It is “a dynamic process over an extended period of time in various situations in which a leader utilizing leadership resources and by specific leadership behaviors, influences the thoughts and activities of followers toward accomplishment of aims usually mutually beneficial for leaders, followers, and the macro context of which they are a part.” (Clinton 1988, 213)

DEFINITION OF LEADER

“A person with God-given capacity and God-given responsibility to influence a specific group of God’s people towards His purposes for the group” (Clinton 1988, 213)

“A Christian leader is someone who is called by God to lead; leads with and through christlike character; and demonstrates the functional competencies that permit effective leadership to take place.” (Barna 1997, 25)
