Certified Facility Manager® (CFM®)

Who?FM experts who meet education and work experience eligibility requirements. Learn more about eligibility requirements at www.fm.training/credentials/cfm/about

What?CFM, an internationally recognized credential, is a competency based certification that requires ongoing professional development and periodic renewal.

Where? Applications may be submitted online at any time. Once approved, take the CFM exam at a Prometric Testing Center closest to you.

Why? The CFM is an internationally recognized credential demonstrating the most advanced knowledge of facility management.

When? Applications may be submitted online at any time. Once approved, take the CFM exam at a Prometric Testing Center closest to you. Must take the exam within 90 days of receiving your application approval.

How long?Generally, with five years’ experience, candidates can sit for the CFM exam. Preparation resources are optional, but CFM candidates may attend a one-day or three-day CFM Exam Prep Workshop or can study at their own pace with the Facility Management Learning System.

The first step is preparation for the exam. Preparation resources are optional, but CFM candidates have a variety of preparation resources available to them, including IFMA Facility Management Learning System and the CFM Exam Prep Workshop. Associate (AssocRICS)

Who? Technical and commercial facility managers with four years of FM experience or a credential recognized by RICS.

What? AssocRICS professional designation.

Where? Online assessment.

Why? Gain a recognized professional designation that demonstrates regulated, technical FM expertise and proven professional ethics.

When? Whenever works for you. Your written submissions can be prepared and submitted while working.

How long? Depending on your experience, it will typically take six to twelve months to qualify.

How do I start?

Chartered Status (MRICS)

Who? Strategic facility management experts with a combination of academic and/or professional qualifications, as well as experience.

What? MRICS professional designation.

Where? Online assessment plus a face-to-face final assessment interview.

Why? Gain a chartered qualification demonstrating regulated, FM professional and strategic advisory expertise and ethics.

When? Whenever works for you. Your written submissions can be prepared and submitted while working. You can then apply to sit your final assessment interview when convenient.

How long? Depending on your experience, it will typically take between two and five years to qualify.

CFM® & Chartered FM Surveyor (MRICS)CFMs with a college or university degree who have successfully completed the RICS ethics assessment and an assessment process qualify for the MRICS qualification.
