    The Statistical Digest was first printed in December 1945by the Office of Statistical Control, Headquarters, Army AirForce. Its purpose then, and today, is to provide statisticalsummaries on Operations, Maintenance, Personnel, Budget, Reserveand Air National Guard components and related areas.

    This is the thirty-fifth edition, now titled the UnitedStates Air Force Statistical Digest. It is the officialcompilation of Air Force Statistics for Fiscal Year 1980(AFR 178-10).

    The USAF Statistical Digest is compiled and published bythe Directorate of Cost and Management Analysis, Comptrollerof the Air Force. Responsible Air Staff offices, major commands,and separate operating agencies participate by submittingstatistical summaries for inclusion in the publication.

    Data in this section provide summaries of United States AirForce combat forces and flying support commands.

    The tables contain data reflecting type of aircraft or missiles;command of assignment; component assignment; equipment and crewreadiness status.

    The data reflecting combat and flying support aircraft andcrews are provided on a semi-annual basis. The status of thesummaries are shown as of 31 March and 30 September of theappropriate Fiscal Year.

    statistics submitted in pertinent recurring reports. These reports are com-piled on a physical possession basis with the various activity categoriesdetermined by the assignment or status of the aircraft rather than actualuse.

    The tables provide summary data covering flight operations for operatingactive USAF aircraft and include aircraft flying hours, utilization, etc. Non-operating active totals are shown as a one-line entry.DEFINITIONS
