    October 2014 News It is October already!Wow the year is flying by! October is a busy and fun-filled month. The children have beenlearning about community helpers and the different jobs they do. They have also been talkingabout what they want to be when they grow up. The students will explore the professionalsthat help keep up healthy like doctors, nurses and veterinarians for our pets. And last, butcertainly not least, they will learn about teachers! In Spanish, the children have continued tostudy letters and numbers, as well as learning more phrases and theme-related vocabulary inSpanish. In Gym with Ms. Sam, the children played basketball and did an obstacle course. Theywill be practicing throwing and catching, as well as learning to work as a team. We have manyspecial events planned this month. We will have a Pumpkin Patch and Fall Fest, which willinclude a Fall Photo Booth, face painting, tattoos and apple cider and cookies. On Halloween,we will have Trick or Treating (no candy!) around our school and the Costume Parade. We willsend reminders for all of our upcoming events.     teachers laugh, too! Patrickis growing so fast and we willdefinitely miss him when hemoves up to the next class.

    Our October Teacher of the Month isMs. Yuris Medrano . Ms. Yuris has beena part of our team for over a yearnow. She started as the AssistantTeacher in Cornell Cubs B and thenmoved to Brown Bears A as theAssistant. She is a loving and caringteacher, who you can always findsinging and laughing with the children.She also has taken on the role of ourSpanish teacher this school year, andshe is doing an outstanding job! She isvery dedicated to teaching Spanishand is always prepared with fun andengaging lessons for the kids. Graciaspor ser un gran maestro, Ms. Yuris!

    Health CornerHospitals in Missouri and Illinois are seeing

    more children than usual with severe

    respiratory illness caused by enterovirus

    D68. Several other states are investigatingclusters of children with severe respiratory

    illness, possibly due to enterovirus D68.

    EV-D68 causes respiratory illness, and the

    virus can be found in respiratory

    secretions such as saliva, nasal mucus, or

    sputum. The virus likely spreads from

    person to person when an infected person

    coughs, sneezes, or touches contaminated
