MASS OF DEDICATION

PROCESSION FROM THE OLD CHURCH

Members of the parish and Fr. Nusi will process from the old church to the new church. The cross bearer will lead the procession.

GREETING

Members of the parish and representatives of the builders of the church gather outside the church building with Archbishop Naumann and the other ministers. Archbishop greets and addresses all present.

Archbishop: May grace and peace be with you all in the holy Church of God.

All: And with your spirit.

Archbishop: Beloved brothers and sisters, we have gathered with joy to dedicate a new church by celebrating the Lord’s Sacrifice. Let us take part in these sacred rites with loving devotion, listening to the Word of God with faith, so that our community, reborn from the one font of Baptism and nourished at the same table, may grow into a spiritual temple and, brought together at one altar, may advance in the love from on high.

PROCESSION INTO THE NEW CHURCH

After the Archbishop greets the community, the cross bearer leads the procession into the entrance of the church.

Please join us in singing Holy God We Praise Thy Name on page 4.

Mass of Dedication † 7

God indeed is my savior; I am confident and unafraid. My strength and my courage is the Lord, and he has been my savior With joy you will draw water at the fountain of salvation.

Give thanks to the Lord, acclaim his name, among the nations make known his deeds, proclaim how exalted is his name.

Sing praise to the Lord for his glorious achievement; let this be known throughout all the earth. Shout with exultation, O city of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel!

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

Isaiah 12:2-3, 4, 5-6

LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING Zephaniah 3:14-18a

A reading from the Book of the Prophet Zephaniah The Lord will rejoice over you with gladness.

Shout for joy, O daughter Zion! Sing joyfully, O Israel! Be glad and exult with all your heart, O daughter Jerusalem! The LORD has removed the judgment against you he has turned away your enemies; the King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst, you have no further misfortune to fear.

On that day, it shall be said to Jerusalem: Fear not, O Zion, be not discouraged! The LORD, your God, is in your midst, a mighty savior; he will rejoice over you with gladness, and renew you in his love, he will sing joyfully because of you, as one sings at festivals.

The word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

SECOND READING Philippians 4:4-7

A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Philippians The Lord is near.

Brothers and sisters: Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice! Your kindness should be known to all. The Lord is near. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Mass of Dedication † 9

THE HOLY GOSPEL Luke 3:10-18

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke What should we do?

The crowds asked John the Baptist, “What should we do?” He said to them in reply, “Whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none. And whoever has food should do likewise.” Even tax collectors came to be baptized and they said to him, “Teacher, what should we do?” He answered them, “Stop collecting more than what is prescribed.” Soldiers also asked him, “And what is it that we should do?” He told them, “Do not practice extortion, do not falsely accuse anyone, and be satisfied with your wages.”

Now the people were filled with expectation, and all were asking in their hearts whether John might be the Christ. John answered them all, saying, “I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming. I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.” Exhorting them in many other ways, he preached good news to the people.

The Gospel of the Lord.

All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Please remain standing until Archbishop reverences the sacred Scriptures.

HOMILY Archbishop Naumann

PRAYERS OF DEDICATION AND ANOINTING OF WALLS

PROFESSION OF FAITH

All now stand and profess our faith. The Nicene Creed is a formulation of what the Catholic Church has always and everywhere believed. I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (At the words that follow, up to and including “and became man,” all bow.) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

During the Eucharistic Prayer, we kneel in adoration because the bread and wine placed on the altar will be changed into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ (Mt 26:26-28). Although the external appearances of the bread and wine remain, the actual underlying reality is transformed.

We thank Fr. Bruce Ansems and Dn. Kenn Clem for being here. We thank Knights of Columbus Honor Guard, the choir for their melodious singing and

liturgical ministers for the wonderful Mass arrangements. Thanks to Stan Peterson, our architect, for working with us and

Thank you to all who cleaned moved furnishings and prepared the church. Thank you to all who prepared and will serve the meal.

Thank you to all our benefactors who have been so generous with their time, talent, treasures and prayers. Thank you to our Altar Society and Knights of Columbus for all

their hard work and many fundraisers. Thank you to our Finance Council and New Church Building Committee who have put in many hours
