I am having a conversation with my peers. It is becoming clear every

passing month that God is calling the Episcopal Church to be renewed. The past

is moving behind our current view as the future has yet be fully seen. There is a

stirring of my soul as I ask, Come, Holy Spirit, and present to me a vision that is

full of hope and excitement. For me this new vision and excitement presents it-

self in different ways. The new and yet familiar vision of St. Luke’s has been born

from the Episcopal Church Women’s visioning process. The ECW vision states –

That St. Luke’s ECW will extend the Love of Christ through spiritual discipline,

discipleship, and engaging all generations of the church. This vision has life and

is making itself known at St. Luke’s.

There is a group who meet once a week for a study called, “The Good and

Beautiful God.” All reports that I have received are the group is finding this week-

ly meeting fruitful and meaningful. This group is being fed. The most exciting

part for this Rector is that this committed group of people are being led by one of

our own, without my presence needed. The vision of discipleship has become a

reality.

It has been put, “The kitchen is the heart of every home.” I agree. Most

of my memories of growing up take place in my parent’s kitchen. The conversa-

tions around the dinner table shaped me into the person that I am today. With

food comes fellowship. With fellowship comes community. With community

comes hope and strength. The next part of the Episcopal Church Women’s vision

for St. Luke’s has taken on a presence. This ministry has found a way to engage

both inside and outside the church. After three attempts to upgrade the kitchen,

I myself, along with the vestry, have made the commitment to move forward and

have the church’s kitchen be upgraded to be functional to prepare meals. The

purpose of the upgrades will be to provide the kitchen as a working space for

preparing meals for the community of St. Luke’s for the Fun and Fellowship

Meals, providing already-made meals for our own who are experiencing major

changes in their lives, along with presenting home cooked meals for our outreach

programs of Question, Persuade, and Refer a.k.a. QPR trainings in suicide pre-

vent efforts, and Financial Peace University classes.

I am confident that this will happen because it already has. The Episcopal

Church Woman have prepared meals for five QPR trainings. This coming Thanks-

giving, St. Luke’s will be hosting a Thanksgiving meal for those who are alone

NEED TO CONTACT FR. DOUG?

Office Hours:

Feel free to use this number.

(“Thoughts from Fr. Doug” - continued from page 1)

during this holiday. We are planning on inviting 30 people to come and enjoy a holiday tradition that brings

people together in unity. The 30 people will be first from St. Luke’s family, and then we will extend the invitation

to the Senior Center in Buffalo. The ECW is planning to host World Day of Prayer on March 2, 2018, in which a

meal will be provided. And we are only getting started.

The anticipating funding will come from a grant that we will be submitting the Foundation of Episcopal

Diocese of Wyoming. Because of the granting process and the best way to schedule the work to be completed,

the work has been started. We are planning on the kitchen project being started by the first of February, 2018.

The heart of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will be upgraded and fully functional well beyond my time as the

Rector of this church. Two years ago, it was not clear what will happen with the ECW, and now new life has

been breathed into this important group at St. Luke’s.

As I look to the coming year, I realize that my life will not be the same. My life is changing. The Holy

Spirit will continue to draw the Church to being renewed. We all will not be the same, but that is to be expected.

Jesus disciples’ lives were changed the day they responded to his call. Why would we expect anything different

for ourselves?

Fr. Doug +

IT WAS A GREAT IDEA, BUT THE WRONG TIME!

Because of unforeseen difficulties in scheduling and

making things “come together,” the Picture Directory,

scheduled for Nov. 5-6-7, has been CANCELED for

the time being. We will prayerfully revisit this project

at a future date. Our thanks to those who signed up

to participate.

PRESSING ON

Words from the Senior Warden

I hope you have all had a chance to enjoy the beautiful fall we have had and are still having this year.

The sunsets and sunrises have been spectacular. The colors of all the various folage so vibrant. God is

quite the artist don’t you think?

This time of year every nice day we have feels like a gift as we wait for winter weather to set in. It’s the

time of year, as we transition into another season, that the universe seems to take a pause and remind us

to pay attention. Pay attention to what is right in front of us and take a moment to experience awe. When was the last

time any of us slowed down enough to experience how awesome our world is and to give thanks for all that is in it?

This November I am going to try and take a few moments each day and give God thanks for all the blessings in my

life. They say something repeated every day for 21 days creates a habit. In this case it will be a good habit to cultivate.

Here are a few things I am thankful for.

I am thankful to God for my sense of smell to be able to inhale the crisp earthy air that comes through my window in

the early mornings.

I am thankful to God for giving me sight to see all the beauty around me.

I am thankful for my health and the ability to work and play every day.

I am thankful for St. Luke’s and my church family that grounds me in my faith and reminds me to stay open to God’s

path for me

I am thankful for my family and friends that know me so well and challenge my fears and remind me to live life with

confidence and joy.

I am thankful for the opportunity to live in this county where we have an abundance of freedom

and choices.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU GOD for all these blessings and so much more.

Bettina

WARM CLOTHING FOR VISION BEYOND BORDERS

One of St. Luke’s many outreach projects is to aid refugee families through donations to

Vision Beyond Borders. Please leave donations in the recessed area near the stored folding

chairs, in Onderdonk Hall.

These items are needed: warm clothing of all sizes tote bags

sleeping bags, blankets,

personal hygiene items children’s books and coloring crayons

over-the-counter medicines like aspirin sewing fabric and notions

Shirley Jacob will drive the donations to the warehouse in Casper, where volunteers for Vision Beyond

Borders will package the donations and send them by shipping container to destinations in the Middle East,

Asia, and some of the Caribbean Islands.

Contact Shirley Jacob at 307-267-2210 for more information.

GROWING THROUGH GIVING

For the past two years, St. Luke’s embraced the annual stewardship pledge campaign by

following a program called Consecration Sunday. The reason this program was used is

because it looks at annual pledging from a different perspective from most pledge drives.

The common annual pledging approach is to fund the annual church budget. This approach simply asks one

question: What is God asking you to give, out of gratitude for Jesus? We don’t talk about budgets, but we

focus on God’s generosity in our lives.

One of the important components of this approach is to invite a keynote speaker to remind the church

about what God has done, and is currently doing, in the congregation. This year we had two different keynote

speakers lined up, and, due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control, they were not able to come and speak

to St. Luke’s. I think this was done by God’s design.

This year, during the one and only request for yearly pledges, I asked the congregation on Consecration

Sunday to do three things. One, put aside the focus on having a rector serve at St. Luke’s. Giving is not about

the priest. Two, put aside all the concerns and thoughts about keeping the doors open, the lights on, and the

heat going at St. Luke’s. Giving is not about the building. Once the pressures of giving out of obligation to meet

the temporal needs of the church have been put aside, listen for the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Give in the

spirit of acknowledging that God is doing more than we can ask or imagine, and that we respond to this bless-

ing by giving what the Holy Spirit has asked of us.

The church is in the Holy Spirit’s hands. Let us embrace the hope that we are alive in Jesus’ promise of

eternal life, and he will bless all our efforts for the glory of God’s kingdom. Then act, by giving what belongs to

God: your heart, hopes, dreams and treasure.

Ministry Coordination Committee Meeting Minutes

The Committee met in the Onderdonk Hall on Tuesday, October 17 at 10:00 am. Present were Fr. Doug,

Emily Whipple, Elaine Walker and Nancy Straight. The meeting was opened with prayer. The group reviewed

the November 2017 calendar and some dates in December and into the New Year.

The following events were put on the calendar:

Oct 29 – Offertory Music performed by young people in the church

Oct 31 – The Monster March will be at 4 p.m.

Nov 5- Amie Holt visit by Fr. Doug, Emily and Nancy

Nov 23 – Thanksgiving Day. A Start-up group is exploring the idea of having a Thanksgiving dinner at the

church for parishioners that will be alone on Thanksgiving Day. Food would be prepared and then served be-

tween 12 Noon and 2 pm. The thought is to invite 30 people first from St Luke’s and then inviting others from

other churches. More discussion will be done to further develop this plan to see if it is workable.

Dec 3 - Advent – we will have blue vestments for the altar and Fr. Doug

Dec 10 - The 8 & 10 a.m. Services that day will be Instructed Eucharist

Dec 24- Christmas Eve

9.00 am Service

6:00 Traditional Christmas Eve Service

Dec 25 - Christmas Day

8:00 a.m. Service Rite 1

Dec 31- Ministry of the Word 8 and 10 ( Fr. Doug will be on vacation.)

Feb 10-11-2018 - The Bishop’s Visit.

The meeting was closed with Prayer.

Our power is shut off

and suddenly we become

thankful for electricity.

Our garbage is not

picked up, and suddenly

we become thankful for

the garbage collector’s

weekly stop.

A good friend dies, and

suddenly we discover how

much he meant to us.

Our water becomes too

polluted to drink, and

suddenly we appreciate

pure water.

Why is it, Lord, that we

take for granted the

uncounted blessings of

life until they are removed

from us?

We take for granted

the mind you have given

us, the beauty of the

earth around us, the rain

and soil combining to

produce our food, the love

of family and friends

surrounding us.

Today we thank You for

being patient with us, for

not forgetting us when we

forget You, for loving and

forgiving us, for music and

singing, for rest and

leisure, for those who

understand us, for

laughter and joy, for being

with us now.

Most of all, we thank

you for not withholding

the blessings of life from

us even though we take

them for granted.

Take us from worship

into the world where we

t u r n w o r d s o f

thanksgiving into deeds

of service. Amen.
