Community “Shred-it” Event was a Huge Success in Southport

Almost 100 people took advantage of the free shredding event sponsored by Downtown South-port, Inc.(DSI) and the City of South-port. Participants dropped off almost 4,000 lbs. of personal and business documents that needed shredding for security purposes. The event took place on October 29 behind City Hall and was timed to also help people with storm-damaged documents.

Downtown Southport, Inc’s presi-dent Peggy Poplars said, “We are so pleased with how this event turned out. The response was terrific. DSI sponsored this event so our members and the community could take advantage of free shredding services when needed most.” The company DSI con-tracted is “SHRED360,” a certified shredding service. Poplars also added, “We are planning a follow-up event in spring so we encourage the public to go to our website at www.DowntownSouthport.com early in 2019 to check the date.” Downtown Southport, Inc. is an independent 501C3 which proudly supports the City of Southport. Recently, Brunswick Community College & BCC Small Business Center hosted members of the Southport-Oak Is-land Area, North Brunswick and Brunswick County cham-bers of commerce for a Business Networking After Hours event on the Main Campus of Brunswick Community Col-lege. The NC Maritime Museum at Southport Gives Nautical Flair to WINTERFEST and First Friday
