Police said an anonymoustipster led them to the FairfieldInn last weekend to arrest a24-year-old Georgia womanwanted for armed robbery tak-

ing her into custody after theyused a ruse to get a male com-panion out of their hotel room.

Samantha Sanford of 52Shope Ridge Road in Ring-gold, Ga. was arrested and giv-en a charge of fugitive from jus-tice on a court warrant, said Lt.Robert Nedder.

She pleaded not guilty at herarraignment in Dedham Dis-trict Court last Monday, and isdue back there for a statushearing March 30, but could bepicked up by Georgia authori-ties in the meantime.

Nedder said that last Satur-day Detective Robert Walshspoke with someone from the

Norfolk House of Correctionwho had received an anony-mous phone call telling himthat a woman named Sanfordwas staying at the FairfieldInn, at 235 Elm St. The callersaid Sanford was wanted for anarmed robbery in Dalton, Ga.,and that she would be with abla ck man named Ramon,Nedder said.

Dalton is the Carpet Capitalof the World. The small townof Ringgold a little farther upI-75 in northwest Georgia iswhere the famed Great Loco-motive Chase of the Civil Warended in 1862.

Walsh got in touch with a

Dalton detective, who gavehim all the personal identifyinginformation for Sanford and acolor booking photo from 2007,Nedder said.

When Walsh and two otherDedham police officers went tothe Fairfield Inn on Saturday, the hotel had no record of San-ford or any man named Ra-mon, Nedder said. But on Sun-day, a hotel manager phoned

Walsh and told him that on Fri-day police had actually beencalled there for a domestic dis-pute between a white womanand black man. But when po-lice went there that day, the cou-ple was gone, Nedder said.

The manager told Walsh theroom was under the name oSamantha Wynn. After speak-ing with Georgia authoritiesagain, Walsh found out thatSanford had previously beenmarried and that her married

    name was Samantha Wynn,Nedder said.

At about 9:30 a.m. on Sun-day, five officers went back tothe Fairfield Inn to begin sur-veillance of the room she wassupposed to be in, Nedder said.

They used a ruse and wereable to draw the male party outof the room, Nedder said.

That man, Ramon Walker,37, of 1850 Washington St. inBoston, was detained in thestairwell, he said.

Walsh and Detective DanielPanciocco then went to theroom and knocked on the door, which was answered by San-ford, who was taken into cus-

tody without incident, accord-ing to Nedder.

Walker had a Social Securi-ty card with a different name, and claimed he was that person, also 37 years old, Nedder said. But police called numbers in hisphone and were able to identi-fy him as Ramon Walker, andsaw that he had the number 6tattooed on the left side of hisneck, just as Boston Police hadtold them, Nedder said.

The suspect eventually saidhis name was Ramon Walkerand that he had outstandingwarrants, Nedder said.

Walker has one warrant fromPlymouth Superior Court forcocaine trafficking, and fourwarrants for breaking and en-tering into a building in the day-time, according to Nedder. Twoof those warrants are fromWest Roxbury District Court, one is from Quincy DistrictCourt, and one is from SuffolkSuperior Court, he said.

Greg Agnew had a plan topick up where the popular sum-mer farmers markets left off andmake sure everyone is stillwarm. All it took was a little pa-tience, a lot of time and someelbow grease.

I saw the enthusiasm of thesummer farmers market andwanted to continue it through-out the year, the 22-year-old

said, standing at the back of theOdd Fellows Hall as customersmoved around the room pick-ing up breads, cocoa mixes andpreserves. Weve been workingon it since November with con-cepts, ideas, labor. It is an in-tensive project. It has been aourney. With new floors and a fresh

coat of paint, the Westwoodresident has worked with thelandlords, Dedhams branch ofthe Independent Order-OddFellows, on High Street to fit hisneeds for the indoor countrymarket.

Overall it had been latenights, he said. Going from

work to here, to bed and then towork by 7 the next morning.Michael Froimowitz, building

committee chairman for theOdd Fellows, said the markethas been a perfect fit for the spotand the Square as the farmersmarket is good for the entirecommunity, he said.

In its second month, the Ded-ham Square Country Store hasseen a steady stream of Sundayshoppers looking for all-nat-ural, fresh, local food, Agnewsaid. And with new local ven-dors popping up each week it is-nt a wonder why.

Manning the table closest tothe door, Agnews father, also

named Greg, makes a promise.Thats going to be the bestcherry preserve you ever tasted,he said to a customer, who end-ed up buying a case of jellyand preserves.

The senior Greg Agnew runsLemonThyme Farm in Hansonand said that he is his own bestcustomer, as he eats everythinghe sells.

I know what goes in them,he said with a smile.

At the next table, Ed Lawtonof Lawtons Family Farms,70 North St. in Foxborough, boasts that his cheese spread hasa non-processed taste and abite of lemon. Lawton said that

the farm is one of five survivingdairy farms in Norfolk Countyand has been in his family forseven generations.

Continuing with the familytheme, Dartmouths Ed Jacobssaid his wife decided a fewyears back to follow her dreamand start a granola company. With flavors like Fig n Nuts,Jammin, A Choc-work Orange, and Mac Daddy, Jacobs saysThe Best Damn Granola Com-panys natural granola is packedwith attitude and taste. TheBest Damn Granola is cooked insmall batches in a shared-usekitchen in Dartmouth. Ac-cording to its Web site, the

Dartmouth Grange shared-usedkitchen is rented out to localfarms for cooking, cleaning andfood preparation.

Perhaps the biggest draw ofthe afternoon was Arlington-based Best Friends Cocoa. In her

cocoa colors, Linda Guttman, the queen of cocoa, said shedoesnt know why people dontdrink her product year-round.

If people drink coffee in Feb-ruary, why cant they have cocoain May? she asked while read-justing the display of Marsh-mallow Cloud, Raspberry Truf-fle and Cinnamon Twist.

Guttman said she onceworked as a massage therapist

and would offer the cocoa to herclients. Then one year when shewent to place an order, Guttmansaid she discovered they weregoing out of business. So shebought the company. Six yearslater, her cocoa is sold in grocerystores nationwide. But Guttmanis still the biggest fan, startingeach morning with a cup ofCinnamon Twist, ending theday with Raspberry Truffle andfilling in the gaps with a mug ofMarshmallow Cloud.

She said the Dedham SquareCountry Store has beenwonderful.

There is no place in Dedhamwhere you can get this variety,

she said, gesturing to the othervendors. Everything is reallytop notch.

The younger Greg Agnewagreed. He said he hopes the

market, which will run untilMay and is open Sunday after-noon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., willgrow in the coming years.

I can see this become a coun-try store, he said. Not just a

special event on Sunday but adestination.
