Foreman Kyle Kennedy and his crew completed a job in Wellington, KS earlier this month. By completion, the crew had installed a 600 amp electric heater used for heating airplaneparts.

Safety

Cold StressJanuary will bring colder temperatures to worksites. With these colder temps comes anincreased risk of cold stress for outdoor workers. While not as common or talked about asheat stress, those affected could result in tissue damage or even death. Factors suchas cold air temperatures, high velocity air movement, dampness of the air and contact withcold water or surfaces contribute to the likelihood of cold stress. OSHA offers the followingclothing recommendations to help keep out the cold:

Wear at least three layers of clothing. An inner layer of wool, silk or synthetic to wickmoisture away from the body. A middle layer of wool or synthetic to provideinsulation even when wet. An outer wind and rain protection layer that allows someventilation to prevent overheating. Layering provides better insulation. Do not weartight-fitting clothing.Wear a hat or hood to help keep your whole body warmer. Hats reduce the amountof body heat that escapes from your head.Wear insulated boots or other footwear.Keep extra clothing (including underwear) handy in case you get wet and need tochange.Do not underestimate the wetting effects of perspiration. Often, wicking and ventingof the body’s sweat and heat are more important than protecting from rain or snow.

Foreman Brent Combs and his crew will complete the slab rough next week to prepare forthe concrete slab. The project should be completed in September of 2017.
