Q: In what ways does your media product use, develop or

challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Page 3: Deception.pptx pp2

We deciding on the story for our piece, we choose to create an opening sequence that would emulate the style of a crime/mystery thriller.

Throughout the production of our coursework we drew inspiration from various other films and television programmes of the Crime/Mystery genre:

CSI- interrogation scene. We used this, as CSI is a modern crime series which provides a similar audience to the one targeted for our film. Another aspect of the CSI programme which we tried to emulate was the use of flashbacks. This allowed us to cut from one scene to another effectively, allowing us to explain the story clearly.

•Throughout our piece we also used music to enhance the film. We used dramatic music that would complement the piece and help reinforce the thriller aspect of our piece. The music for our piece was heavily by the music from famous thriller film Shutter Island. When the sound is then put together with the film the ideal thriller is created.

Q: How does your media product

represent particular social groups ?

Page 6: Deception.pptx pp2

• When creating our piece we had a particular audience in mind. Our audience are fans of the genre; people who enjoy watching films of the thriller genre, however as teenagers we also attempted to target certain social groups too. Our peers are a clear representation of the target audience for our piece . The complexity of the story line demonstrates the ways in which we have crafted this piece as it is understandable and realistic without being confusing. We decided to keep our own accents. This adds authenticity to the piece.

and why?

When thinking of institutions for film we had Universal in mind as it has previously shown films such as The Bourne Ultimatum and State of Play ; both films which highlight and represent similar features to our film. However modern day productions of Universal have shifted to films for younger audiences such as Despicable Me, Nanny McPhee and Pokemen Returns. Some of these films are the product of years of skillful animation work.

Summit Entertainment This is the ideal institute that would

represent our work .it is modern and supports films that would appeal to our audience of young adults and teens. An example would be its production of Cruel Intentions. It has also shown other audience appealing films such as American Pie not to mention Summit Entertainments release of teen-hit Twilight. This shows that its audience is well targeted and respond well to its releases. Furthermore we believe Summit would be likely to showcase our work as its inspiration was drawn from popular TV series CSI. The plot is complex yet ideal for our audience as they would find it gripping and interesting.
