During the weekend before the Key Club holiday social, a group of friends got together at ElizabethHang’s house to make cookies for the event. Each person brought a specific ingredient for the cookies andtheir mission was to put those ingredients and their skills together to create a tasty treat for all of Key Club toshare.

I can’t say we were the greatest bakers in the world. We started off trying to make sugar cookies butwe couldn’t seem to get the batter right. It was chunky and the vanilla extract separated from the actualbatter, so we started over with new batter. During our second attempt at making the batter, our experiencedbaker Peter Nguyen showed up and led us on our mission to make cookies. He aided us in making the batterand cutting the cookies into candy canes, snowmen, Christmas trees, and other Christmasy shapes with thecookie cutters. After we put all of the batches of cookies into the oven, he and a few others started makingthe batter for the “Rudolph Kisses.” It was a ball of dough with a Hershey Kiss inside. He made baking look soeasy! We all worked together to carefully wrap the dough around the Hershey Kiss, making it as round andperfect as possible. It was really fun and turned out to be delicious! It was a great way to demonstrate thepower of teamwork. If any one individual person had to make the Rudolph Kisses, it would have been tediousand taken forever, but it took a team of 7 people only 20 minutes to complete. While we were waiting for thecookies to bake in the oven, we created a study group and studied for Chemistry.

It was getting late, and Elizabeth wanted to frost the sugar cookies the day before the social toensure freshness. She frosted all of the cookies by herself Tuesday night. She also made festive boxes to putthem in and brought all of the cookies to the social on Wednesday. The cookies tasted way better than wethought, even though Elizabeth added 4 ¼ cups of sugar instead of flour! We all agreed to do it againsometime, maybe to donate to people in need, in hopes that the cookies would turn out even better!

Overall, we all had a great time getting together to bake the cookies. It was a great experience, especially for Elizabeth, because it was her first time having friends over for a noneducational purpose. Wegot to work together to make delicious treats to share with a wonderful Key Club. What better way to spenda Saturday than to bake cookies for Key Club with a group of friends you love?

The Christmas Social!by Melanie Louv

Hello, Key Clubbers! With Christmas Day sneaking up on us and winter break just right around thecorner, we knew we had to celebrate the end of the long year with a big bang. What better way tocelebrate than to have a Christmas social?

The social took place after school on the Wednesday of the last week before winter break. Everyonewas encouraged to bring food, and we were not disappointed. All the food everyone bought almost tookup the whole table! From chips to donuts, there was something to satisfy everyone. The wonderful ElizabethHang, with the help of some friends and fellow members, also took up the task of baking an assortment ofcookies just for the social! The cookies turned out amazingly delicious and ended up being a great hit;everyone loved them.

For some people, the food may have been the best part of the social. But if you asked me, I wouldsay that the Secret Santa was absolutely the best and most fun part of the party. The members had funexchanging gifts, as did the officers. The surprise of not knowing who got you and what your gift was goingto be was half the fun! Seeing the joy on someone's face as they open their present is something that wasgenuine; the feeling was definitely rewarding when I presented my Secret Santa with their present.

After all the partying was done, we ended the social with recycling. Key Club does their part inSummit High School by taking care of recycling duties. Even with all the fun and games, there still comesresponsibility.

"Well, I personally had a great time at the social! Besides the fact that some people only came forthe food, the rest of us had fun hanging out and recycling."

Yusra Aziz, fellow Key ClubberI can honestly say that the Christmas Social was a huge success. Spending time with some of the

best people on Earth was a great way to end the first half of the school year. I can't wait for the new yearand the next social! Happy holidays, everyone!

Toys for TotsDecember 12th, 2012

Toys for Tots was a successful event where we were able to collectfour school busses packed with toys full of toys for the less fortunate kids. The event itself was held at the Mansfield Performing Art Center. Manybooths came out to support the event by giving away items such as hotchocolate, nachos, burritos, and more. Summit Key Club helped bydoing a cake walk. Officers and members baked treats that were latergiven away as prizes to the winner of the cake walk. There where tonsof people that showed up to the event. Everyone had a great time and

I just want to thank everyone who took the time to show up andparticipate in the event as well as those who took the time to bake thegoodies. We couldn't have had the cake walk without all of your hardwork and donations. So one last shout out to all those who came out tohelp make the cake walk possible! ! !

Adopt-A-Childby Sar thak Gupta

Happiness isn't happiness until it is shared. And that is exactly whatthe Adopt a Child christmas program does, spread and sharehappiness. We are blessed to have a nice Christmas with our family, so it isonly our courtesy that we aid the less fortunate. Our school adoptedmore than twice as many children than last year! The feeling you getfrom wrapping those presents and sending them off is like no other! Ifyou think about it, you are basically acting as a santa! And seeing thethankful emotions in the parents' eyes is a touching sight.

I also to help in the distribution of the toys and making sure eachone went to the right family. It was great seeing all these little bikes,Barbie's, Air Hogs, and many many more! Carrying all the presents totheir car and seeing the confused children in the backseat waspriceless!Adopt a Child is a great program! It was a very touchingexperience as well as a great life lesson. Everyone should participate ingiving every child a Christmas they deserve!
