DECEMBER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: (LOA’s are provided within 5 days; these are open to ALL active duty service members, dependents, DoD! Transportation provided to active duty, with the priority given to single/unaccompanied active duty service members).

WE UPDATE OUR WEBSITE EVERY FEW DAYS WITH ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE NOT ON THIS CALENDAR! Carolina East Breakfast with Santa (11/29 through 12/2). Assist with set-up, decorating, activities, tear down, and a variety of fun Holiday themed activities! Additional details (dates/times for each activity) are available on our website! Habitat for Humanity! (12/4). Assist with installing windows on home project! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800; will return around 1530. Beaufort County Book Club Toys for Tots Luncheon (12/7). Assist the Toys for Tots program during this special luncheon! Media will be present. Please meet at the Roadhouse at 0930 in your dress blues. Will return around 1430. Limited to 14 volunteers please Chicod Elementary School (12/9). Join our friends over at Chicod Elementary School as they say a special Holiday thank you to our SMP. Dinner will be included! Please meet at the Roadhouse at 1530. Will return around 2130. Service uniform of the day, please. Transportation is available for 39 volunteers. 35th Annual Candelight Celebration at Tryon Palace (12/9 and 12/16). Assist guest at Tryon Palace with Holiday themed activities. Please meet at the Roadhouse at 1430; will return at 2200. Proper civilian attire please. Toys for Tots opportunity also available (Dress Blue Bravos). Breakfast with Santa at Annunciation Catholic School (12/9 and/or 12/10). Assist Annunciation Catholic School with this great Holiday event! Times TBD, and will be posted to our SMP website. Craven County Smart Start Holiday Hustle (12/9). Assist with this great holiday event! Details on our SMP website. Beary Merry Christmas Sledding Event Volunteering (12/10). POV only; in New Bern. Please see website for details and to register! Havelock Parks and Recreation Christmas Parade (12/16). Assist Havelock Parks and Recreation with their Christmas Parade! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0615; will return around 1200. Wreaths Across America (12/16). Assist with laying wreaths at New Bern National Cemetery. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1030; will return around 1330. Boys and Girls Club Holiday Dinner (TBD). Assist with this festive holiday dinner at Boys and Girls event! Help with prepping and serving dinner, along with holiday activities! Times and date to be announced. Toys for Tots (NOW through 12/17) See/call the front desk to sign-up. Other Toys for Tots Special Event opportunities will also be available at the front desk and our website on a continuous basis. Attire is Dress Blues please.

o Morehead City AND New Bern Walmart. M – F (1800-2000); Saturdays and Sundays (1200-1800). Two-hour increments (but there is no max). POV ONLY!! Please stop by the front desk to complete your paperwork.

o TOYS FOR TOTS SPECIAL EVENTS: Atlantic Beach Shag Club (12/2. POV only); Tryon Palace Candlelight Celebration (12/9 and 12/16. Transportation provided). More Toys for Tots Special Events will become available on our SMP website).

Animal Shelter (every Saturday): Volunteer at the Carteret County Animal Rescue. Assist with walking the dogs, meeting with potential adopters, special projects, and cleaning. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0700. Volunteer with a Veterans’ Retirement Community – Carteret House (every Monday except 12/25): Bond with Veterans and swap stories at one of our local retirement communities. Attire is service uniform of the day please. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. Volunteer with Riverpoint Nursing Home (every Wednesday): Volunteer with our seniors! Attire is service uniform of the day please. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. Youth Sports Basketball and Cheer Coaches! If you are interested in volunteering to be a Youth Sports Basketball or Cheer on base for 7-12 year old athletes, please contact MCCS Youth Sports at 252-466-5493. Will be 3-5 hours per week. Tryon Palace Garden Blitz Days (every Wednesday; POV only). Assist the Tryon Palace with raking, gardening, and mowing. POV only. Meet at Tryon Palace (0830 to 1130 and/or 1300-1600). Please bring gloves, sunscreen, water source, and bug spray. Please see the SMP front desk if you would like to borrow work gloves. Additional registration details on our website! Havelock Boys and Girls Club (M – F). POV only. Volunteer with our local Boys and Girls Club! Assist with mentoring, tutoring, homework, coaching, and activities! Please contact the Boys and Girls Club at 252-444-5437 for additional details. A one-time $10 background check is required. WWII Museum Restoration (on-going M—S; works around your schedule). Love cool history? Want to help save our WWII history?!! Learn how to restore some of the coolest artifacts and VEHICLES from WWII at the Newport WWII Museum. UFC FIGHT NIGHT (12/2) FREE. UFC 218: Holloway vs. Aldo, Overeem vs. Ngannou, Cejudo vs. Pettis, Alvarez vs. Gaethje, and many more!! Prelims kick-off at 2000; Main fight starts at 2200 at the Roadhouse! SMP Council Meeting (12/14 at 1430 at the Roadhouse): ALL ARE WELCOME!!! SMP is YOUR program, so come fill us in on your recreation ideas, volunteering ideas, and QOL concerns. SMP Christmas Eve Party (12/24 @ 1930). Stop by the Roadhouse for a night of board games, music, snacks, Holiday Shenanigans, and fun. SMP Christmas Dinner!!! (12/25 at 1400) FREE!!! Enjoy the HOLIDAYS with SMP!! On Monday, December 25th, SMP will provide a free Christmas Dinner (with all of your Holiday favorites!) for Single and Unaccompanied Marines and Sailors, as well as those on duty. Dinner will be served at 1400 at the Roadhouse. Games will kick-off at 1200 and the 4th Annual Sleigh-Master Strong Man Competition will start at 1230. Other competitions & games include: Mega Gingerbread Construction, cookie eating contest, and a “white” elephant stocking exchange (provided by SMP). If you’re on duty, we will bring a meal to you! New Year’s Eve Party (12/31). Come pre-party or ring in the New Year at the Roadhouse with SMP! Awesome food and beverage specials all night! Pool Tournaments (12/10, 12/14, 12/19, 12/26) at 2000. Canvas and Cork (12/12) at 1830. Poker Tournaments (12/7, 12/12, 12/21, 12/24, 12/28) at 2000. Cards Against Humanity Night (12/3, 12/17) at 1930. Musical Bingo (12/13) at 2030. Bible Discussion Group! Every Tuesday at 1900 in the Roadhouse reading room. FREE SMP Golf Clinics (every Wednesday): Have fun while learning golf fundamentals or work on your existing technique! All range balls and equipment will be provided. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1645, or directly at the Sound of Freedom Golf Course at 1700. Clinic is one hour. HOLIDAY SHENANIGANS WEEK (11 DECEMBER THROUGH 15 DECEMBER): Christmas Shenanigans Movie Festival (12/11). Enjoy all of your favorite Holiday themed movies! Canvas and Cork (12/12 @ 1830). Paint with SMP! All art supplies and instruction provided. Funny Ornaments, Tacky Christmas Cards, Crazy Stocking Stuffer Nite (12/12 @ 2030). Leave classy at the door We’re making “unique” ornaments, Christmas cards and “one-of-a-kind” stocking stuffers. All supplies provided. Musical Bingo (12/13 @2030). SMP Ugly Sweater Party (12/14 @ 1930 – 2300). Celebrate the Holidays with SMP’s UGLY HOLIDAY SWEATER PARTY!! Free pizza, wings, snacks, and drinks (while supplies last)! Tons of games and awesome music. FIVE prizes awarded to winners in the following categories: 1. Tackiest. 2. Brightest/Loudest. 3. Most Creative on a Budget. 4. Bringing Vintage Christmas Back 5. Most amount of Christmas décor used. Disgruntled Decks Marine Corps Edition (12/14 at 2100). (Sort of like Cards Against Humanity … but SPECIFICALLY FOR MARINES. No kiddos present, please). Karaoke (12/15 at 1900).

SPECIAL TRIPS:

Arlington Trip (12/15 through 12/17). Enjoy three days and two nights! Activities include sightseeing, wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetery, Marine Corps Museum, and much more! Includes transportation on a coach bus and lodging. Additional details and registration instructions will be on our website! SMP and DEVIL DOG DARE (FREE!). SMP has received a number of spots for Devil Dog Dare, to include PAINTBALL. Two packages available! Includes the activities, lunch, and drinks at NO CHARGE to the Command/Marine/Sailor.
