First Sunday of Advent
Advent invites us to watch for the coming of the Lord: to be
awake and vigilant. The Lord breaks into our world and into
our lives in unexpected ways, as he did in Bethlehem. Today
he may come in the face, the voice, the need of a stranger, or a
child, or the poor, or our own family. We place ourselves, this
day and this season, in an attitude of quiet, prayerful hope-
filled expectation, so that in the frantic busying of life, we will
not miss the Master’s coming. What can you do this week to
be awake and vigilant for the Lord?
despiertos y vigilantes.

Help care for elders. “Thanks to support
from the Retirement Fund for Religious, we
are now in much better position to care for our elders,” writes a religious sister. Your
donation helps her religious community and
hundreds of others provide for aging mem-
bers and plan for long-term need. Please give
to next week’s Retirement Fund for Reli-
gious Collection.
