John went throughout the whole region of the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah: A voice of one crying out in the desert: “Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be made low. The winding roads shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth, and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”
“As the journey of Advent continues, as we prepare to celebrate the nativity of Christ, John the Baptist's call to conversion sounds out in our communities. It is a pressing invitation to open our hearts and to welcome the Son of God Who comes among us to make divine judgment manifest. The Father, writes St. John the Evangelist, does not judge anyone, but has entrusted the power of judgment to the Son, because He is the Son of man.
“And it is today, in the present, that we decide our future destiny. It is with our concrete everyday behavior in this life that we determine our eternal fate. At the end of our days on earth, at the mo-ment of death, we will be evaluated on the basis of our likeness or otherwise to the Baby Who is about to be born in the poor grotto of Bethlehem, because He is the measure God has given hu-manity.
“Through the Gospel John the Baptist continues to speak down the centuries to each generation. His hard clear words bring health to us, the men and women of this day in which even the experience and perception of Christmas often, unfortunately, reflects materialist attitudes. The 'voice' of the great prophet asks us to prepare the way for the coming Lord in the deserts of today, internal and external deserts, thirsting for the water of life which is Christ.” — Benedict XVI This coming Wednesday is the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Perhaps you might find this Advent recipe something to consider as you prepare the way for Christ.
Cookies Guadalupana 1 cup butter, softened 8 Tablespoons of powdered sugar 2 cups flour 1 cup chopped walnuts 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 1 tablespoon milk Bag of powdered sugar (to roll cookies in after baked) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray sheets with non-stick spray. Mix all the ingredients together with a mixer. Roll the dough into walnut-sized balls and place on cookie sheets. Bake 10-12 min, Cool then shake in a plastic bag of powdered sugar.
You can also make a batch without nuts.

Es una invitación urgente a abrir nuestros corazones y dar la bienvenida al Hijo de Dios que viene entre nosotros para hacer manifiesto el juicio divino. El Padre, escribe San Juan Evangelista, no juzga a nadie, pero ha confiado el poder del juicio al Hijo, porque Él es el Hijo del hombre. “Y es hoy, en el presente, que decidimos nuestro destino futuro. Es con nuestro comportamiento cotidiano concreto en esta vida que determinamos nuestro destino eterno. El próximo miércoles es la fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Tal vez usted pueda encontrar esta receta de Adviento como algo que considere preparar en el camino asía Cristo.
Galletas Guadalupanas
1 taza de mantequilla, ablandada 8 cucharadas de azúcar en polvo 2 tazas de harina 1 taza de nueces picadas 1/2 cucharadita de vainilla 1 cucharada de leche Bolsa de azúcar en polvo (para enrollar las galletas después de hornearlas) Precalentar el horno a 350 grados. Rocíe las hojas con spray antiadherente. Mezclar todos los ingredientes con una batidora. Enrolle la masa en bolas del tamaño de una nuez y colóquelas en una bandejas para hornear galletas. Hornee de 10 a 12 minutos, enfríe y luego agite en una bolsa plástica de azúcar en polvo. También se puedes hacer sin nueces.
