NEWS FROM THE OFFICE OF FAITH FORMATION “The mother’s love is like God’s love, God loves not because we are lovable, but because it is God’s nature to love, and because we are His children.” ~ Anonymous

The new catechetical year begins this Tuesday,

September 20th. Faith Formation families should check their mailboxes for important information regarding the upcoming Faith Formation year. If you have not registered, please do so immediately.

Today, September 18th, is Catechetical Sunday,

marking the beginning of a new year of Faith Formation for our Parish family. At the 11:30 Mass, we welcomed back all our catechists and Religious Education children. Please pray for our volunteers who share their Faith in our Child Faith Formation Program, RCIA and CLOW, and also for our Catholic School teachers. We ask you to pray too for all our students as they encounter Jesus Christ more personally in their lives each day.

For your convenience, the Faith Formation Family Handbook is now available on the Parish website: www.stleothegreat.com. Please download the handbook and other important information, as well as the full year calendar by accessing the Faith Formation tab at the top of the home page.

IMPORTANT! Have you ever felt a call to be a living witness for Jesus Christ and share your faith with others? If you have, please consider serving as a Catechist for our Fall Child Faith Formation Program. If God is calling you to this important ministry, contact the Office of Parish Faith Formation for information about how to respond. Helping to form children as life-long disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ is a fulfilling faith experience for both you and the children you teach.

We pray for a safe beginning of the School and Faith Formation Year.

God bless you.

News from the Parish Staff From Joan Kret,

Youth Minister

Our Youth Ministry is a comprehensive program with a strong focus on the Eucharist that builds a teen’s relationship with Jesus and the Church. It is said that "teens are the Church of today, not tomorrow, and we need to get the message of Christ to them. They need to know they are loved by God.” All teens from grades 7-12 are welcome to our meetings. They which are held each Sunday starting with the 11:30 Mass and then continuing at the teen center and AAC. This is an opportunity for teens to have a good time and socialize, and at the same time, grow closer to the Church and learn more about the Catholic faith in challenging ways. We need volunteers to help with this program. Adult parishioners can help with the youth ministry program by becoming Core Members. For more information, please contact the Joan Kret at 732-687-7216 or email her at [email protected]. Visit our Blog for information about meetings, events and upcoming activities

slgyouth.wordpress.com

September 25th is our Open House! Join us starting with the 11:30 Mass. We will have an open mic for karaoke and refreshments, too! Come find out what our youth ministry is all about, visit the teen center and meet new families!

PRO-LIFE CORNER + St Peter Claver took on a difficult and challenging mission of meeting slave ships when they docked. He brought them supplies, food and spiritual inspiration. He taught them about Jesus, he baptized them and he risked his life to help and defend them by giving them dignity and respect. He is the Patron Saint of race relations. A true example of mercy in action

Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ September 18, 2016

Paul wrote an encouraging note to Timothy and we have a chance to both read it and apply it for our spiritual well being. We are taught all the elements of prayer – adoration, contrition, thanks and supplication, as we have noted before – ACTS. As I examine my prayer life, I want to include all these elements in what I include as prayer. Timothy also is reminded of God’s will and His will for us all – salvation and encounter with the Truth. These are not earned but are offered as gifts, for which I can ask and receive. The reason for it is the reminder that Jesus is the one mediator, the savior. As labor talks, contracts are often brokered by a mediator or arbitrator, so Jesus represents us, has done all is required, and only asks us to ‘sign on’. In Paul’s words it leads us to more quiet and tranquil lives.

TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME September 25, 2016

First Reading: Amos 6:1a, 4-7 Amos denounces the selfish attitude of those who surround themselves with luxuries with no concern for others. He goes on to warn that because these people lacked interest in the state of their society, they would be the first to be exiled. Second Reading: 1 Timothy 6:11-16 Paul tells Timothy to seek integrity, faith and love. Paul urges him to attain everlasting life by maintaining strong faith in Jesus and in God until Jesus returns. Gospel: Luke 16:19-31 Jesus tells of a rich man who feasted daily, while a beggar named Lazarus went hungry outside his gates. When both men died, Lazarus was taken to Abraham, but the rich man was in torment. When he begged for mercy, Abraham reminded him that Lazarus had lived in torment, while the rich man lived in selfish luxury. The man then asked if Lazarus could be sent to his brothers to warn them. But Abraham said if they had not heeded Moses or the prophets, they would ignore even the warning of one risen from the dead.

“Beloved. First of all, I ask that supplications prayers, petitions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone, for kings and for all in authority, that we may lead quiet and tranquil life in all devotion and dignity. This is good and pleasing to God our savior, who wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth. For there is one God.
