Hospitality Volunteers Needed

Attendance at our monthly Sunday hospitality is growing in leaps and bounds, which means we need more helpers. Setup is simple, and this is an easy ministry in which to be involved that doesn’t require a major time commitment. If you’d like to help out, you may sign up at next Sunday’s hospitality or call the rectory.

Winter Coat Drive The Sts. Peter & Paul - St. Ursula Men’s Club is sponsoring a winter coat drive from November 16th to December 21st, to benefit those in need in the local community. We are in need of new or gently used adult and children’s coats. Coats can be brought to the Sts. Peter & Paul - St. Ursula Rectory or you can call, 914-668-9815 to schedule a pick-up of your donation.

St. Ann’s Parish 2nd Sunday of Advent December 6, 2015

Today I’d like to share something personal with you. As I hope you’ve realized, I try my best to be outside every weekend Mass to greet you, the people I serve as your pastor. From time to time I hear someone tell me they wanted to talk to me about something or just wanted to say hello, but they didn’t because I was busy talking with someone else. I feel bad when that happens. I always tell them the same thing: you are not less important than any of the other people whom I am greeting after Mass. Some people are more assertive and come right up to me; others are a bit more shy. Don’t be afraid! I will greet anyone who wants to greet me and talk with me. Of course, if you have something important to discuss, I usually ask you to allow me to greet the parishioners first so I can have your undivided attention. No one is unimportant to me or to St. Ann’s, and if you need to speak with me, that is one of the reasons why I am outside Mass. (I also just enjoy saying hello to my parish family!) If what you need to discuss requires more time than I am able to give you at that moment I will suggest we make an appointment where we can sit in the office and talk. But please don’t hesitate to come to me; I’m here to serve you.

I also did once hear someone say they didn’t think I liked them because I went over to another parishioner before Mass and talked with that person but did not speak with them. When that happens I assure you I am not snubbing you. I usually have something immediate to discuss with that person. Perhaps I am looking for an altar server, maybe I’m looking for an update on a loved one’s condition; maybe they motioned to me, maybe I had a desire to tease someone, who knows! But please be assured: If I did not speak with you, it was certainly not a deliberate snub. Hopefully you know me well enough to know I would never do that. Also, sometimes before Mass I’m running around getting things in order, and maybe my mind is elsewhere and I’m not in a state of mind to be concentrating on everyone I pass. I deliberately give a lot of attention to our children and young adults as part of my ministry to them as they are our future and can so easily be led away by the forces in their school lives, so please don’t feel jealous of them. But you all know I love you, and if you need me, don’t for a moment think I’m too busy with someone else to make time for you. You have as much right to my attention as anyone else, so don’t be afraid to come and speak to me. I promise I’ll always be there for every one of you!

Christmas Party The Father DiFalco Council Knights of Columbus will be hosting a Pot Luck Parish Christmas Party on

Saturday night December 19th at 6:30pm at St. Ann’s School gym. Price of admission is a traditional dish

that serves 6-10 people and $10 per family. Join us for a night of Christmas cheer including Christmas

carols performed by our choir. Please RSVP by Friday, December 11, 2015 by filling out your reservation

sheet included in this week’s bulletin. Let’s celebrate Christmas together as a parish!

NEW YEAR’S EVE New Year’s Eve will be here before you know it! Plan to spend your New Year’s Eve at St. Ann’s at our second annual Gala New Year’s Eve Dinner Dance. Many people have lamented to me that, with the casual attire that is so common today, there are few occasions left to get all dolled up. Well, here is one for you! Our semi-formal attire and 18-and-over age limit gives us an opportunity to celebrate as adults, and gives couples with young children a much needed “mommy-and-daddy’s date night.” But for those who cannot get a babysitter and would still like to come, we will be arranging free babysitting service and a little party for the children in the school cafeteria while we party in the gym. Just tell us when you call to register that you have children for the party. For $35 a head and free babysitting if needed, it’s the best deal in town! See you New Year’s Eve at St. Ann’s!
