HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

ALL THE DAYS OF 2012 AT ST JEAN VIANNEY PARISH

This New Year 2013 is our parish entrance into our 37th year and our Diocese’s 52nd year. How many cycles of time we pass through each day, month, year and this past year of 2012 were no different? We marked the liturgical calendar, the ministry calendar, the school calendar, the political calendar, the financial calendar. God was at the center of all these intense times of activity. LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, Blessed New Year ahead! The celebration of Mary the Mother of God, a Holy Day of Obligation January 1st, accentuates our Catholic observance of the coming New Year. Since we believe in a Christian View of time, time is not cyclical, but has a beginning and end. While we are experiencing annu-al events that makes time “feel” cyclical, in truth, we are doing some “circular, familiar observances” throughout A year that passes, moving towards times end in a future of which we do not know. All this sounds rather deep {?} yet, marking the New Year is a lot about gumbo, football and time with family. So, enjoy The New Year festivities and remember the Lord on this special day by coming to Mass either for the 4:00pm Vigil, or the Masses on New Year’s Day at 7:30 or 9:30am. Its still not too late to consider an End of the Year financial gift to the parish. This has obvious tax benefits for you and the parish would be very grateful for this support. If you have yet to make a gift to the Capital Campaign here is a means to do so; or if you have already made a pledge, you could consider making another gift as well. Please call the parish Office and speak with Debbie Daigle, and she would be happy to assist you with your plans. Any gift would be most welcome. There are some parishioners who have already indicated that they will remember St. Jean Vianney in their wills. This is a great vote of confidence in the future of the parish and could impact the parish in a significant way. Over the years, a number of Catholic Churches in our diocese have received these remembrances in wills from their parishioners and these have created opportunities for ministries that were not possible before. So, as you come to the end of a year and think about the future remember St. Jean Vianney in your will. Contact me and let’s talk. The second of a seven part series on the Year of Faith, called Does God Have A Plan For My Life is now available. Small Faith Communities will be using this second DVD series for one of their sessions in the coming weeks . There will be a Morning of Reflection for all parishioners from 9:00-Noon, on Saturday Jan-uary 12, in the Library and Church, led by Fr. Jerry Burns on Does God Have A Plan For My Life. There will also be a Liturgical Minister’s Spiritual Formation evening around this same topic on Tuesday, January 22, 7:00-8:30pm. We begin our consideration of the second phase of parish Stewardship life, Financial Stewardship during the month of January.

I look forward to celebrating New Year’s with you at Mass. Lots to pray for….. Love,

Continued form cover and First Communion, and parents and young adults preparing for Confirmation. Marriage preparation was offered to the engaged. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults was offered year-round. Certification courses were offered on campus to benefit our catechists/ teachers in Religious Education, our Parish School and Parish Pre School. A successful Auction and Raffle was held by the School; the Men’s Club did their work days and held a successful Christmas Dance. The KC’s followed their charity work calendar in the parish and in the larger community. The KC’s, CDA’s and Parish Community Life Commission partnered in the annual Parish Family Day Picnic. Community Life also held Fishing with Mom and Dad and the Dads and Daughters Dance. All three phases of parish Stewardship were completed. A fourth JUST FAITH group of parishioners began their studies of Catholic social justice teachings. Our parish continues to actively participate with other churches and civic institutions to form Together Baton Rouge, seeking to create a better Baton Rouge. Through this effort the parish will Participate in a Contextual Scripture Study. Musicians offered their skills and other liturgical ministers served daily and weekly all through the liturgical year. Direct services were offered to the needy. Prayers were offered at all hours of the day and night through the Parish Prayer Line. We again survived what appears to be the final year [yeah!] of road construction. ☺ We survived Hurricane Isaac [Boo]. What lies in the future? Who knows? We know God will be faithful, come what may. Happy and Blest New Year 2013!!!!!!

Giving Is Planned In almost every significant endeavor in life, planning is an important part of the process. That is certainly true in

regard to our finances. Before serious spending, we research options and we plan. To make sure we can save for future needs, we plan. In the same way, please take the time to prayerfully consider your involvement in this important stewardship effort—well ahead of time. Wise giving to the needs of this parish should be planned
