Beloved Church Family,
Once again, I thank you for your prayers while we
were on Pilgrimage to the Holy Land. As men-
tioned last weekend, it was a very moving experi-
ence for all of us who made the Pilgrimage. It is a
trip of a lifetime.
This weekend marks a beginning of a New Year
in the Liturgical calendar of the Church. We know
that the Solemnity of Christ the King marks the
end of the year, and the New Year begins with the
First Sunday of Advent. I would like to remind
you that Advent has a twofold character: A season
to prepare for Christmas when Jesus’ first coming
to us is remembered and a season when that re-
membrance directs our minds and hearts to await
Christ’s second coming at the end of time. There-
fore, unlike Lenten Season, Advent Season is not a
penitential time that looks forward to a return of
the Lord for judgment but rather a celebration of
the Incarnation and only in that light a time of
waiting for the parousia. Indeed, the celebration of
the birth of Jesus prepares us for the definitive en-
counter with Him. Moreover, the first coming of
Christ began that which the second and final com-
ing will bring to completion. In addition the time
of eschotological expectation is stronger in the bib-
lical and euchological texts of the two weeks espe-
cially after December 17th.
May you have a successful Advent season as we
continue as a family to invite Jesus to be born in
us.
With love and admiration,
Very Rev. Oswald P. Pierre-Jules, Jr., S.S. J., V.F.
Meet The Ministries of
Our Church Family
Ministers of Hospitality
The Ministry of Hospitality has played such an important role
in our church family. The members of the Ministry are the first
to greet the people as they are coming in to celebrate with us.
We are blessed with such a group of people for both Masses
4:30 P.M. on Saturday and 10 A.M. on Sunday. Indeed, we are
so proud of the work of this particular Ministry. We are im-
pressed by the way the members pay attention to what is hap-
pening on the Altar during the celebration of the Liturgy. We
must not take for granted the challenging task of the Ministry.
We will forever remain grateful to all members of the Ministry.
The chair-person of the Ministry is a hard working and devoted
man: Melvin Pichon
