The mission of Christ the King School
is to provide an excellent education
in a Catholic community of love and care;
to foster respect for self and others,
and to nourish a life-long devotion to God
And the teachings of Jesus Christ
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are in the season of Advent. Our students are engaged in class and
school-wide prayer. Our teachers guide our students to think of Christ
in our lives and how we treat each other. During the four weeks of Ad-
vent we are preparing to celebrate together as a school community and
with our family Christ’s birth.
Amid the Christmas songs on the radio, the lights in windows, and the
anticipation of gifts from Santa Claus; we should take refuge in the
hope Jesus brings us. This Christmas will most likely look and feel dif-
ferent with family members not gathering as they usually do. Many of
us will see our relatives through video chats or phone calls. However,
we must know the message of hope and joy the birth of Christ brings
us will transcend all of our difficulties. Let us be grateful for our CKS
community, our friends and neighbors, and our family member’s safety
and health.
Pope Francis encourages us in his recent Advent homily, “people must
stay awake and remain vigilant through charity and compassionate
service to others.”
We can all strive to help other s in need this Christmas. CKS is spon-
soring Toys for Kids of Vermont as our community project. I hope you
will be able to consider a donation. More information is inside this
newsletter.
Wishing you a blessed Christmas,
Dr. Dwyer

Mrs. Gillis and the 5th Grade Class would love to say thank you to all of the CKS families for donating items for the Thanksgiving baskets. The baskets brimmed with yummy goodies and were collected by the Howard Center who then delivered them to families in need in our community. A big thank you to Farrell Distributing for donating the 12 turkeys. We wish all of our families a peaceful and joyful Ad-vent season.
5th grade sewed Jesse Tree ornaments for their Advent door. Each student select-ed a day and created a felt ornament to accompany the daily advent reading.

Middle School Kindness Tree The Middle School Team has constructed a kindness tree in the hallway in order to prepare ourselves during Advent for the birth of Christ. The tree was made from the traced hands of our middle school students. All acts of kindness are noted on an ornament, that students will hang on the tree. It is our hope that the tree will be weighted down with ornaments as we head into our Christmas break!

Playground Blessing & Opening On Tuesday, December 1st Monsignor McDermott gathered students in prayer to open our new playground. Monsignor then blessed the playground structure with holy water. Most of all, Monsignor was the first one to go down the tallest slide!
Decorating
Monsignor’s
Christmas Tree On Monday, December 7th, the 2nd grade participated in the annual tradition of deco-rating Monsignor McDermott’s Christmas tree. Although stu-dents usually enter the recto-ry’s covered porch, this year gathered students outside on the patio to place their orna-ment on the tree. Some placed it low and others need-ed a ladder to reach high up! A cookie reception followed in Mr. Verdirame’s classroom.

Dear Christ the King Families, This year for the Christmas season we are working with Toys for Kids of Vermont to help collect new unwrapped toys. The need is greater this year. Toys for Kids is ex-pecting at least a 25% higher demand due the pandemic, but has lost many of their drop sites due to business closures, or places of business not wanting to have peo-ple enter to drop items off.
Here at CKS we firmly believe that Vermont children should not lose their Christmas.
We have accepted a drop site barrel and it is available in the front door vestibule of the school for families to donate. We will also keep it in our vestibule over the week-ends so that parishioners attending Mass can donate.
If you would rather not bring something in person, you are welcome to order a toy through Amazon and have it delivered directly to the school. If you order through Amazon Smile, your purchase can also help support CKS, choose CKS as your des-ignated charity through: http://smile.amazon.com/ch/26-1420469. You can have your order delivered to the CKS lobby. 136 Locust Street, Burlington VT 05401. Care of Tracey Whitney. All donations must be delivered/brought to the school by Monday, December 21st.
Thank you,
Dr. Dwyer
