Christmas season is upon us and it is a very busy time of the year.

Thanksgiving has come and is now in the annals of history for 2018.

The New Year approaches as well. So let us redeem the time that is

ours day by day.

We held our children’s play and the hanging of the greens and were encouraged by the

enthusiasm and participation of our children and the cast of characters that presented the program. We

thank Rena Baker and her whole group that made the presentation so special.

Many of our folks and area friends are still dealing with the results of the recent floods. Let us

continue to be vigilant and seek ways to minister and to be a help to those that are in many cases

having to start all over in their lives.

We had business conference and the building project committee made recommendations to

begin a fund raising campaign to both encourage and inform our church family of the projected

financial needs for our pending church construction project.

The finance group will also be meeting during the month to propose a budget for the coming

year. This will be presented to the church for vote later in the month and prior to the New Year. All

ministry teams that have budgets or financial needs for the coming year need to present those request

to the budget team as quickly as possible.

Both the efforts for our “Appalachian Christmas Outreach” and Samaritans Purse shoe box

collections have been completed. We wish to thank everyone the prepared both backpacks and

shoeboxes in that we know that many of you sacrificed to furnish those items.

Danny Hawkins of Baptist Children’s Homes came and give us a presentation during November.

As a result so many of you were moved to donate generously to our special offering for the BCH of

NC. Also, our youth will be traveling to the Kinston campus of BCH on Saturday December 8th to host

a Christmas Party for the residents there.

Following the December calendar and the associated events for the season, we will have a

performance of our cantata on December 16th in the AM, and an “Old Fashion” Christmas celebration

with songs and refreshments at 6:00 PM. Please make efforts to attend both. Both will have special

meaning to us as a Church as we remember the real meaning of Christmas.

We shall celebrate Christmas in worship on the 23rd of December in the AM with our morning

Sunday school and worship services at the typical times. However, on the evening of the 23rd at 6:00,

we shall gather in the sanctuary to have seasonal sacred music as we reverently observe the Lords

Supper. This will be a reverent experience so please come and be both blessed and a blessing.

We will NOT HAVE SERVICES on Wednesday night of the 26th. Also, the church offices will be

closed December 24th –December 26

th and will re-open on Thursday December the 27

th.

I want to especially thank both my family and my church family and friends for the celebration

of my 70th Birthday on Saturday evening, December 1

st. The food and fellowship along with the cards

and well wishes are greatly appreciated. I have decided that getting old is a testament to Gods’ Grace

and His Mercy.

All of our existing ministries of “Meet me at the Bridge” and our Philippines Children Ministry

are doing well with good involvement. Sister Allison Cavenaugh is the contact for MMATB and Bother

Earl Brinkley is our contact for PCM. Crossover Ministry will resume outreach efforts with the gym

being a center of influence. If you have question or would like to help, please contact Brother Tony

Horne.

Each Sunday morning you are welcome to the altar to pray as we begin our worship. I thank

you for the reverence that you are showing during that time and encourage you to engage in prayer as

well. It may at the altar or in your seat, but please pray. These prayers are having an impact and are

making a difference.

PLEASE REMEMBER: In order for events and announcements to be placed on the overhead, in

the bulletin and in the newsletter, the office has to have those items in a timely fashion.

As many of you know, Linda is to have knee replacement surgery on the 17th of December. In

order to get her to appointments and follow-ups with medical visits, and to be her “hands and feet”

for a while, I will not be coming to the office daily during the remainder of December. However, I will

make every effort to conduct services, and to meet your pastoral needs. Linda and I thank you for

your inquiries and prayers in her behalf. Continue to pray that the surgery and recovery will be a

success and that God will be honored by the results.

In Christ,

Philip Eakins, Pastor

MEET ME AT THE BRIDGE – DECEMBER For the next couple of months our emphasis will remain on WARM ITEMS – our homeless friends need ANYTHING that will shield them from the harsh winter winds. We do not need any summer clothing at this time and are asking that you concentrate only on the warm coats, sweaters and blankets. We appreciate your love and continued generosity.

When you pray, YOU are part of reaching every nation with the gospel. When

you give to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, 100% of your gift helps send and

sustain IMB missionaries. You will find special envelopes in the pews during the

entire month of December. For more information on Lottie Moon and the IMB, please

visit their website at www.imb.org
