What’s Happening Exalted Ruler Message

Members all,

Since the bulletin arrives a little before December 1st, we have all probably just finished our turkey dinners, so with Thanksgiving behind us Christmas is coming up fast. November was a busy month, but never would have happened without the many volunteers, I thank you one and all.

We all had to say good bye to a GREAT Elk and a better friend, Pat Langan, he served our lodge faithfully for many years, never raised his voice, never an unkind word and always willing to help, he will be missed. Good luck Pat, we will all miss you.

We had Special Olympics which was great, and our annual football pasta dinner for Foran & Law High Schools, again thank you volunteers!!!!Bob Magowan had to step down from the construction committee due to other Elk obligations, but we welcome Dan Contaras as our new member, thank you Dan for stepping up.

December starts off with our Memorial Service December 4th at 1:00 pm, please try to attend and pay final respects to our departed members, coffee and pastry will be served after the service. Then we have the Children’s Christmas party, Christmas basket prep and delivery, members Christmas party and the Christmas day dinner. Let’s finish the year up strong and we can relax in January. Volunteers will be needed for all these events so please help where you can, my thanks to you in advance.

Myself and Gail would like to thank all members and their families for all their help this year and may you have a very blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year. Be happy and safe.

As always I ‘am available for anyone who needs a hand or help with an issue or an event. Fraternally yours, Jeff Hall 203-414-4572, [email protected]

Trustee News - Lodge Renovations

An architectural drawing of our proposed Lodge renovations is on display in the Lounge. Please come down and review them. We welcome your comments and will try to address every one of them as best we can within cost constraints and the physical confinements of the building.

We are anxious to move forward with the renovations as quickly as possible as there is much to do, so the time allotted to provide comments will end after the second Lodge meeting in January.

What’s Happening Officers Notes

Members All,

Don’t want to sound like a broken record but it’s getting about that time where if your dues are not paid I will have to drop your membership so please if you see your number as delinquent call me or stop down and pay them so you can stay in good standing with the lodge.

The Area 1 Soccer Shoot was a success in Vermont and we had a 2nd place winner Jack D’Avignon, congrats and job well done.

Thanks to all who came out and supported the Special Olympics on November 19th and 20th you really know how to show your Lodge and many others what it means to be an ELK.

Veterans Day parade in Hartford was a great success and thanks to the members who made it out to march with us.

I want to wish all the members and their families a happy and safe Christmas and other Holiday they celebrate this December.

It’s Christmas Basket fund time! We will be accepting donations of money to sponsor a Holiday Basket ($25.00 or anything you can give).

Each basket contains food for a family of 4 for 2-3 days. This year our goal is the same - 185 baskets.

Important Dates to Remember:- Friday, December 16th at 6:30 pm - packing of boxes.- Saturday, December 17th beginning around 8:30 am - delivery of the baskets.- Sunday, December 25th for helping at the Christmas Day dinner for the needy or lonely.

If you haven’t volunteered for any of these events before – come this year it’s always a fun and very rewarding time. If you need more information go to our web site (www.milfordelks.com) and find the link on the right titled “Christmas Baskets/Boxes” or contact Amy Potts (203-305-3124) or Danette Contaras (The Basket Committee).

MESSAGE FROM PAT LANGAN (AFTER HIS PARTY)Thank you to everybody that came to the going away party thrown for me last night.

It was awesome to see all of you and those of you that gave speeches on my behalf you know who you are and I can’t thank all of you enough. It was amazing to see the

support I have from all of you while I start this new chapter in my life.

One last thing, most of you guys spoke or said to me how nice and understanding I am, while I’m gone I would like all of you guys to try to be nice and understanding to any member you don’t know or maybe don’t agree with. The best going away present I could ask for is hearing that the lodge is going in the right direction and everyone

is working together for the reason we all joined the elks.

Thank you all for everything I’ll miss you all.

What’s Happening House Committee Notes

The house committee hopes everyone had a good Thanksgiving.

Thanks to Joe Mager III for doing trivia night on November 26th, we hope everyone had fun doing it.

On December 9th from 6 to 8 pm will be our steak night. Full meal for only $15.00. We need to know how many steaks to get so you have to sign up at the lounge by December 7th.

Christmas is coming and so is the house committee Christmas party on December 17th from 7 to 9 PM. It is a pot luck party for members. As last year members will get two drink tickets for that night but if you bring something for the dinner table you get a third ticket. This is also karaoke night so you can stick around and have some fun singing.

We will be closing early on Christmas eve and will be closed on Christmas day.

On behalf of the house committee and the staff at the lounge we hope everyone has a MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Christmas: How the Milford Elks Help the Community

OCT

NO

VDE

C

Late October we start off the season by having

a food drive.

Start

In November we begin asking for cash

donations from local businesses, members

and other people in the community.

Sign to encourage members to give.

About a week before Christmas over one ton of food is bought

and over 185 boxes are packed by members and friends.

Then those boxes are delivered to those in need.

Christmas Day volunteers cook and serve food to over 100 needy, homeless, elderly and lonely local folks that are in need of a hot Christmas Dinner.
