December Christmas Music
at Goddard
Music plays such a vital role in the lives of
people at this time of year, especially those
who, involved in the kingdom of God and
its work, are about the observance of
Advent and Christmas.
There will be several opportunities in the
life of Goddard to receive the gift of music,
both through regular worship and in special
presentations. Here is a list of several
offerings of music:
December 4: regular worship schedule.
Dec. 11th: The Chancel Handbells will play
in worship, and will be joined by Donnie
Anderson on the flute. They will play 2
Mannheim Steamroller-arranged carols at
8:30 am and 10:50 am.
Dec. 14th- During the Wednesday Family
Night Dinner, our children will present their
Christmas program after the 5:00 pm
meal.
Dec. 18- The Chancel Choirs of Goddard
and Central Presbyterian Churches will
host a city-wide Messiah sing-a-long in the
sanctuary at 3:00 pm. All are invited to this
presentation of the Christmas portion of
Handel's Messiah, whether to sing or simply
listen.
Dec. 19: Goddard Weekday Ministries
Preschool Christmas Program at 11:00 am
in the Great Room.
Please make plans in your holiday schedule
to enrich your Advent/Christmas journey
with the gift of music.

Hilltoppers Invite Goddard Members to December 19th Pot Luck
The Hilltoppers Pot Luck is scheduled for Monday, December 19. Due to
the scheduling of the Preschool Christmas Program, we will start our
luncheon thirty minutes later than normal. This will allow us to avoid
congestion in the parking lot.
Therefore, the Hilltoppers Christmas Pot Luck will be held on
Monday, December 19, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. The Hilltoppers Fund will be
providing two smoked turkeys for the occasion. We will need members
to bring a salad, a side dish, or a dessert.
It will be a time of great fun and companionship. All members of
the church are encouraged to come and join in with us. There will be a
“dirty” Santa gift exchange. Each member is encouraged to bring a
Christmas ornament costing $5.00 or less.

Thanks to you, the Goddard Pie Ministry delivered “63” pies, cupcakes and cakes to the Community Rescue Mission for Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner. They were so appreciative.

When You Don’t Feel Like
Celebrating
By Paula Andrews/Health Ministry
The holidays will not be the same without your loved ones. Did you realize that the sadness in your heart and your best efforts to work through it represent a gift to honor them? Reaching out to others and going through this experience can bring wisdom, strength and peace.
God’s loving care is available to the grieving heart. Begin your day with prayer, be open to His love to help you feel stronger and to be comforted. Doing something for others can be helpful. For
example, go visit someone who is alone or isolated or in need. You may find that this gives meaning to the holidays and offers a type of memorial to your loved one. Join a support group with others who are grieving. You can find others who understand about the experience of losing a loved one at this time of year.
Lastly, consider the thoughts of an historic person who understood great challenges in life. Helen Keller said, “When it seems that our sorrow is too great to be borne, let us think of the great family of the heavy-hearted into which our grief has given us entrance. And inevitably, we will feel about us, their arms, their sympathy and their understanding.”

Goddard United Methodist Women News:
Are you ready for some great United Methodist Women
Christmas fun?
On Dec. 3, we will be hosting the Northwest District Pastor and their
Families Annual Christmas Brunch. Thank you to everyone who has
agreed to prepare food and serve our Northwest District Pastors and
their families. The pastors and their families will be bringing canned
goods for our Food Pantry. Yeah!
On Dec. 8, we will be hosting the Fort Smith Retired Teachers
Christmas Luncheon. This is the third year we have been blessed to do
this fundraiser. It is a great way to showcase our beautiful church
building and church family. Fern Daniel and Betty Forrest have
prepared beautiful table and Great Room decorations. Diann Ishmael
has set the delicious menu and many of you have agreed to help.
On Dec. 13 at 6 PM, we will have our last quarterly UMW meeting
for 2016. We will have special musical guests, “The Glory Girls +
One.” Please bring your favorite Christmas Goodies. Mary Beth
Sudduth will lead in the installation of our new officers and Mary
Margaret Gattis will lead us in our Pledge Service. Circle 3 will be our
hostess. We hope you will come have “A Wonderful Christmas
Time”!
Ok, there lots of work involved in these activities, but whenever 2 or
more United Methodist Women are together, there always fun and
something comes up to laugh about and talk about later!
News from the Food Pantry
We have great news to share with you this month!
1) On Nov. 15, our food pantry received 2,998 cans of food from the
Fairview Elementary School. The students and faculty conducted a
food drive and gave this wonderful donation of food to us to help feed
the people who come to our pantry. We are so thankful to Fairview’s
faculty, the students and their families for giving so unselfishly to help
us help others. Thank you to Fairview’s principal, Peggy Walter, for
showing God’s love via this very caring action.
2) On Nov. 19, we received 200 foil turkey roasting pans from the
Family Dollar Store on Midland. What a great joy it was when the
manager called to tell us that their customers had donated this many
pans and Dollar Tree had chosen to give us these pans to help us with
our Turkey Giveaway!
3) On November 21, we gave away 123 turkey bags. What a joy it is to
help others. We were blessed that so many of you heeded the call to
share what you have with others. You truly have “Inside-Out” Caring
Concern and Action. Thank you to Mary Beth Sudduth who did an
excellent job organizing our turkey giveaway effort. She really is the
“Turkey Master”! Thank you to all who came and helped with the
giveaway. And yes, we will do it all again in December for Christmas.
So if you have not already made a donation to help provide turkey
bags, please consider giving to this worthy cause. Just make you check
payable to Goddard and write turkey bags on the memo line. (See
turkey bag give-a-way pictures at the left.)
4) Thank you for all you do to ensure we have funds to help provide food for our neighbors
5) Thank you to all our faithful, hard working volunteers
who continue to help transport food, carry food, stock shelves, fill
pantry sacks, and help hand out food to our neighbors. You are such
caring people! Thank you for keeping our Food Pantry “Inside-Out”
Ministry ongoing!

Goddard member, Paige Tyler,
traveled to Sager Brown in
Louisiana in the early November.
This was Paige’s first time to do mission
work at Sager Brown. (Be sure and ask
her about her experience. See pictures
from her trip.) Paige posted on the
Goddard United Methodist
Women Facebook page: “This has
been a fantastic week at UMCOR Sager
Brown. We verified 1736 cleaning
buckets and put together another 520.
That was besides building a wheelchair
ramp, building chairs, distributing about
1200 boxes of food, working at local food
pantry, working at day care facility and
donating blood….I am so thankful to
have had this experience. Can
hardly wait to share with my
Goddard family.”
