As 2013 rolls in, there are many new and exciting opportunities in our community. At the summit in northern Missouri and for nearly half a century, the Lee’s Summit Chamber has held steadfast

to our vision statement and successfully “created opportunities for business success through networking, advocacy, and business and professional development”. All accomplished with the support of members like you.

Like many other organizations, the last few years have been challenging; however, I am so grateful to our dedicated board and members who are willing to keep their nose to the grindstone and work hard to keep our Chamber flourishing.

Lee’s Summit is a very diverse business community. We are the eyes and ears of the market, which helps us to prepare our members for the future. We set out to ensure that our members are able to continue growing in this ever-changing world. What a grand time it is to be a Lee’s Summit Chamber member!

As a community, we must stick together and support our local businesses. We are a very strong Chamber – third largest in the greater Kansas City area.

The Lee’s Summit Chamber is leading the charge in developing beneficial programs including:

• BOOST Lee’s Summit, an entrepreneurial effort that takes “growing our own” to the next level

• Recess for Success, the Chamber’s Professional Development seminars

• Wake Up to Success, the Chamber’s Work/Life Balance seminars

Lifestyle Publications Announces New Hires

Lifestyle Publications, a national publisher of community lifestyle magazines, announced the addition of Carrie Julian and Mike Baugher to its staff. Julian is Lifestyle Publications’ Art Director, while Baugher joined as the Advertising Production Designer.

Prior to joining Lifestyle Publications, Julian served as art director for KC

Weddings and SPACES magazines. Baugher, trained in commercial art and design, last served as creative director for The Personal Marketing Company in Overland Park.

Julian and Baugher’s additions come at a time when Lifestyle Publications is experiencing tremendous national growth. Lifestyle Publications has eight

magazines in the communities of Tulsa, Atlanta, North Scottsdale and Springfield, Mo., as well as its flagship Kansas City publications – Leawood Lifestyle, Johnson County Lifestyle, Lee’s Summit Lifestyle and Northland Lifestyle. In the coming months, Lifestyle Publications plans to launch publications in Charleston, S.C., Boulder and Los Angeles.

Tony Wrisinger Wins Award for Broadcast ProgramsTony Wrisinger has received the Missouri Community College Association’s News Media Award at the association’s 48th annual convention in Kansas City. The award was presented in recognition of Wrisinger’s outstanding work with

MCC’s Blue River campus in Sideliner Sports’ “Sonic Locker Room” and “Positively Blue Springs” programs.

The programs have featured Blue River’s performing arts and athletics programs and have included interviews with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

Adelman Travel Group Acquires Great Southern TravelAdelman Travel Group has announced it will acquire Great Southern Travel, the travel agency division of Great Southern Financial Corporation.

The deal is the largest acquisition in Adelman’s history and caps a series of business moves that will increase the company’s revenue by a projected 25 percent this year.

“We are a very different company than we were two years ago,” said Steve Cline, chief operating officer of Adelman Travel Group. “We have always been a strong player in the business and corporate travel sector, but we knew we had to round out our line of services. Bringing in Great Southern Travel opens up a new market for us within corporate travel and greatly expands our vacation travel business.”

Great Southern Travel, based in

Springfield, Mo., was founded in 1977 as a division of Great Southern Financial Corporation. It is one of the top 100 travel agencies in the United States, with about 90 employees in 13 locations.

Cline said the acquisition is unique, and attractive to Adelman, because it offers no redundancies in employee positions or functions. “In fact, we’re looking to hire about a dozen new employees for our corporate headquarters in Milwaukee as a result of the acquisition and other growth.”

The Great Southern Travel locations will be rebranded, but Cline said they will

operate much the same as they did before.

“We have very similar corporate cultures,” said Cline. “They have a business that thrives on delivering service and flexible solutions, and their people make the difference. We welcome and look forward to working with the staff of GST.”
