Hi Artyfolks,

By the time you read this, most of those wattelley big birds will either be soups or sandwiches, and we will be into another full-blown Holiday Sea-son. So many parties, so little time.

One event that you should not miss is the annual "General Membership Meeting ala Turkey Dinner" that will be held on Saturday, December 15 at 1:00 PM at the Astro St. Studio. This event will be instead of our regular monthly "Dine with the Art-ists" that's usually held on the sec-ond Saturday of the month. (So many parties, so little time.) We will be voting on Board members as well as on several revisions to the By-laws. (Those revisions are spelled out elsewhere in this newsletter, and the complete By-laws can be found on the HAA Website.) The Board has already recommended these changes, but they cannot take effect without a two-thirds vote of a quorum at a General Membership meeting.

Please note the time change for this Membership Meeting - 1:00 PM instead of 11:00 AM as it has been in the past. The turkey, dressing and gravy will be provided, but please bring a side dish of your choice.

And at the risk of appearing to in-dulge in crass commercialism, let me remind you again, that for that spe-cial gift for that hard-to-buy-for per-son on your list, do check out the Gallery at the Mall, and bring your friends.

Have a Joyful Holiday Season

Featured Artist

Joan E. Yadusky (nee Evans) was born in Etobicoke Ontario, Canada. She is a graduate from a four-year Fine Art College where she studied Art and Interior Decorating. She con-

tinued her Art training at Orange Coast College in California.

Joan is a Blue Ribbon Artist both in Sculpture and Painting, and has been in numerous one-person and group shows. She designed the logo of the Huntington Beach Art League in California. Joan has been an artist all her life and studied sculpting with Ed Chaitlin and Mr. Tar-zien in California, watercolor classes from Dale Boatman in Arizona, and oil painting with Lilian Thomas, Jean Coutts, and Esther Hinkley. She has also taken Raku pottery classes with Barry Midgorden in Ari-zona.

Joan taught Art workshops for several years. Her expertise is in the use of color. She paints with palette knife and impasto, giving her freedom to paint without restriction. She is also a recognized bronze sculptor.

Joan was selected by the Sierra Vista, Arizona Arts and Humanities Commission as the Sierra Vista Fea-tured Artist of the Year 1996, and had a one-person show at the Cochise College Library in January 1997, featuring eight bronzes and twenty large oil paintings.

Her specialty is portraits that express the essence of a personality, with everlasting themes of love and compassion connecting all her works in one great tapestry of the human soul. It is to this essence that those who own and admire her work respond.

Joan has personally examined the Art in the Louvre in Paris, the Los Angeles Museum or Art, the Getty Mu-seum in California, and in Pasadena, California, Toronto, Canada, and Mexico from which she gains inspira-tion.

She is represented at "The Wyatt Earp House Gallery" in Tombstone, AZ., and "The Gallery of Dreams" in Saint David, AZ.

Joan E. Yadusky is the founder of The “Sierra Vista Seven Artists”, a local group of artist who have an annual show of items available for purchase in-cluding oil, watercolor, reproductions, bronzes, and unique, one of a kinds. Joan E. Yadusky was the Featured Artist of the Year at the Sierra Vista Mayor’s Art Awards in 1996. Four members of the group have been honored at the Mayor’s Art Awards.

Paper Arts No December Meeting Carolyn Yeutter and Gabrielle LaFargue gave yet another interesting greeting card presentation for the November Paper Arts group. Crea-tive juices were flowing throughout the room. There will be some very lucky recipients this Holiday season. We hope you will be one.

There will not be a meeting in December. Stay tuned for information on the January 21st presentation of origami with Noriko Blair.

Sue Ziegler has been gracious enough to be our presenter for February 18th. She will be doing quilling, a paper art of folding and curling paper to be included in a design. The latest Lands' End catalogue has an example of a Christmas tree on the cover...see photo.

From the Gallery Director

Wow! This is a busy time of year! I hope you get everything on your list finished.

We had a good turn out for the “Dine with the Artists” on November 10th and some new faces this time.

On the 17th Pat Wick brought 25 pounds of soft clay and we all got a big chunk. To play with! It was amazing! I actually made a bowl! While we pushed and “patted” Pat was sculpting a huge vase. It just got taller and taller!

Pat will take our bowls to be fired and we will have something special to display!

We will have our Christmas Party on December 15th. This will replace the “Dine with the Artists” this month. It is time to bring your ballot and have turkey with us and elect the people we need on the Board. The party is from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. so come and enjoy.

Curators’ Message from the Mall Gallery Sue Olivo

“Merry Christmas” to all our Gallery Artists and the rest of the HAA membership.

Some of the Mall hours are changing to accommodate Christmas shoppers, so we will have some days that we will be staying open a little longer. It may only be an extra hour that we will need you to work. Most of the changes are in the morning hours when the Curators open for the day and we think we will be able to handle it. If we find we need extra help in the mornings, we will let you know.

The Mall has asked all employees and volunteers to park around the perimeter of the parking lot to save the closer areas for our customers. Handicap parking is the exception. Security will be patrolling the parking lot two hours after closing of the Mall.

Security is available to remove unruly persons and to assist with citizens arrest. NORA (need officer right away) is for a threatening customer, fights and injuries. Their number is 452-0011. After hours is the same number just press option 5.

FYI, the red dots are used to indicate something is sold. We use these when a painting is sold and will be picked up later. You will find these dots in the desk drawer.

Joan Yadusky is December's featured Artist. Join us for her reception on December 2nd, 3-5:00 P.M.

There will be no trade date this month as the last Wednesday is Christmas day. Trading out art-work will resume on the last Wednesday in January.

Keep up the good work.

See you at the Mall Gallery

From the Galleries

During the months of December and January if you need title cards for

replacement of sold paintings please contact Elizabeth Line at

[email protected] or 803-0195.

Sales have been good during November.

Next change date is Wednesday, January 30th.

Community News

The Palo Verde Palettes will meet on Saturday, November 24, 2012, at 9:00 A.M. at the Sierra Vista

United Methodist Church, 3225 St. Andrews Drive. Members will be painting Memory Boxes and Treasure Boxes. The Palo Verde Palettes have participated in the Memory Boxes Program (a nation wide program) for several years, donating the boxes to our local hospital, the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center. The purpose of this great program is to paint boxes to give to bereaved families who have lost a child right after birth, stillborns and those who die within days of their birth in the hospital. The families are presented a box to take home, holding the things that touched their child: birth certificate, crib card, bon-net or cap, gown, wrist band, foot and hand prints, etc. Treasure boxes are given to children in the Shriners’ hospital so that they can store their personal items. We invite guests who would like to join us in this endeavor and learn more about our chapter and our various community projects. PVP welcomes new members and guests to join us at any of our activities. For further information about the chapter and this program please call the project contact person, Juaneata Nossett, 520-220-0200, or PVP contact person, Manijeh Watson, 520-458-3338 or e-mail: [email protected].
