Dear Friends in Christ,
Greetings of Peace and Joy to you and your loved ones!
Water and Fire. It seems that both elements are showing their strong presence at these times for us. The Gospel Reading for this weekend, in a way, tells us about “the roaring of the sea and the waves.”
Water. In two occasions now, the former Lannery Hall at St. Mary’s Church, which we use as our Parish Hall, has been flooded. We gutted the tiles out in October since they were not salvageable. Mold might become our next enemy. Then, this Tuesday with all the torrential rain, we had half of the hall in water again.
Fire. For several years now, the St. Jerome Rectory has not been compliant with fire regulations. The return air is also coming from the basement, which makes it a safety issue and the furnace conked out. Oy vey, as the Fiddler on the Roof, once said.
Earth. And as the icing on the cake, our 60 year old sewer pump at the School went kaput. Why didn’t they teach this at the Seminary?, if I may ask. Now, it’s fire, earth and water all at once.
Empedocles, an early Greek philosopher, said that there are four classic element of nature. One is missing from the list above. And that is air.
This is the good news—a big sigh of relief. We have air in the presence of the HHoly Spirit and we had that Presence last Thursday with the Confirmation of our students. MMsgr. Tom Gervasio, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Trenton, was the celebrant. Congratulations, dear 8th grade students and thanks for those involved with their formation.
Shifting gears, these are some of our spiritual preparations during the Season of Advent. At St. Mary’s Church, we’ll have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament after Mass on the three Wednesdays of Advent. There will be praying of the Stations of the Cross at 12 Noon, Divine Mercy Novena at 3 and Benediction at 4. I will also be available for Confessions the whole day. I will be camping out there, so join me.
At St. Jerome’s Church, we’ll also have 44:30 PM Vespers, or Evening Prayers, for the four Sundays of Advent. There will be adoration and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament for the First and Last Sunday. Please join us in preparing for the birthday of our Savior.
Till then. Blessings to you always,
Fr. PJ

Evening Prayer is short collecon of psalms, hymns, cancles and
intercessions. It is the prayer of the Church, prayed around the
world as night silently falls upon the earth. It is “a prayer of
thanksgiving, not only for what God has done through Jesus
Christ, but for what God is doing now in our lives and in our
world.”
What makes the Evening Prayer of the Church beauful and meaningful?
YOU!! You add wings to our prayers to God!

Mini Meditaon Surprise
“Each of us is the result of a thought of God. Each of us is willed, each of us is loved, each of us is
necessary. There is nothing more beauful than to be surprised by the Gospel, by the encounter with
Christ. There is nothing more beauful than to know Him and to speak to others about our
friendship with Him.” Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI
Here’s One Posive Encouragement
Well, did you try it? Try “what” do you ask? You know…that ACT OF KINDNESS that will bring joy and a smile to a stranger. It was suggested you try doing this in last week’s bulletin. Last week I was just waiting my turn at the grocery store, not even thinking of an act of kindness, but there it was waiting for me, a woman needing help. I was hesitant, probably as you would have been for fear of making a fool of myself if she rejected my assistance, then I thought what would have been the worst repercussion in not helping one of God’s children? At first, she was hesitant to accept my assistance but then I told her it would be okay, that it was a Thanksgiving gift. She was still hesitant, she looked at me, gave me a smile and thanked me but still seemed to not understand why a stranger was helping her. For the rest of the day I kept reliving that moment and I felt GREAT. Try it! The three of you will enjoy the experience, that person you helped, you and especially God.

Deacon’s Corner
How to Not Be Cranky at Christmas Well there are plenty of reasons to be cranky during the days leading up to Christmas. To begin with; it’s busy, too busy. And there’s never enough time to get everything done that has to get done. And then there’s the Christmas shopping and the need to
get the perfect present for everyone. Now we have not only a Black Friday but also a Cyber Monday, and some statisticians predict that the biggest shopping day will be the Saturday before Christmas. So the end is barely in sight. Not to mention the traffic. And the parties and numerous events to attend; the number in direct proportion to the number of persons in our workplace environment and the number of persons in our families. And there is the frustration that we also feel at the inevitable attempts by the secular world to appropriate the reason for the season to something other than the incredible birth of Jesus into this world as a divine person among us. Instead of “Merry Christmas” we hear too often the words “Happy Holiday”. Finally there is the reality that a good many of us feel a great sadness or loneliness at this time perhaps because we have experienced the loss of a loved one that makes the season even more difficult with memories of past Christmases with that person present. And yet with all this as Christians, the Christmas story is our story. It is our story of hope and joy. Even in the midst of a troubled and frenzied world. We as Christians should be joyful because we know Christ is the reason for the season. We know how incredible it is that the Son of God is born of the Virgin Mary to redeem us , to become one like us, to journey with us, and to save not only the entire human race but each one of us individually. Love doesn’t get any stronger than that. We know that Christ brings all things to the good for those who love Him. Today we start Advent , a time of hope, reflection , and anticipation. In these twenty three days left before Christmas let’s take the time to prepare our hearts for what is really important-the reality of Christ coming into the world at the end of time, the reality of Christ coming through grace into our lives every day, and this incredible Incarnation of Christ into history, a little over two thousand years ago.. And perhaps this season we as Christians focusing on Christ may be a source of joy to others as we allow Christ to become incarnate and alive in our own hearts and hands and feet to be a source of help, and joy and peace to others.
