Tras seis años sin publicar material inédito, Luz Casal regresa a las tiendas con un disco de nombre sugestivo, Almas gemelas. Denos una pista sobre el título. Se refiere a mis dos perfiles musi-cales: uno más rockero y frívolo; el otro más íntimo. Son como dos almas, dos maneras complementarias de entender la música. En este álbum se ha lanzado a cantar en otros idiomas… No he sentido la necesidad de traducir y cantar en mi lengua. Hay una versión en español de Ho capito che ti amo, pero no me sonaba igual. Y sinceramente, no me atrevería a cantar a Jobim sin que sea en portugués. ¿Cómo es la Luz más íntima? Tengo tendencia a imaginar las situa-ciones que viven los otros. Y eso lo meto en las canciones. Soy muy observadora, y canto y vivo a través de los demás.

After six years out of the spotlight, Luz Casal is back in stores with an album suggestively titled Almas Gemelas (Soul Mates). Give us a hint about the title. It refers to my two musical profiles: one that’s more rocker and flippant; and the other, more intimate. They’re like two souls, two complementary ways of understanding music. In this album, you’ve thrown yourself into singing in other lan-guages… I didn’t feel the need to translate and sing in my own language. There’s a Spanish version of Ho capito che ti amo, but it didn’t sound the same to me. And I don’t dare sing Jobim in any language but Portuguese. What is the more intimate Luz like? I have a tendency to imagine situations other people are going through. And I put them into my songs. I’m very observant, and I sing and live through others.

Con 25 años recién cumplidos, la compañía de Víctor Ullate recupera una de sus sesiones más celebradas, con piezas muy diversas. En Jaleos, la coreografía del propio director reco-ge la esencia de lo español; Y es un dueto pensado por Eduardo Lao con música de Mahler; en Après toi, el bailarín homenajea a su maestro, Maurice Béjart; y Boleros, inspirada en la obra de Ravel, rinde tributo al ballet clásico del siglo XX. Fresh from celebrating its 25th anniversary, Víctor Ullate’s dance company is bringing back one of its most spectacular performances, with very diverse pieces. Jaleos, choreographed by the Ullate himself, conveys the very essence of Spain; Y is a duet by Eduardo Lao set to the music of Mahler; Après toi is a ballet commemorating the dancer’s teacher, Maurice Béjart; and Boleros, inspired by the music of Ravel, pays tribute to 20th century classical ballet.

El carnaval es la gran fiesta de Santa Cruz de Te-nerife. La ciudad se viste de gala, y durante los 40 días que duran las celebraciones, deja a un lado la rutina para celebrar el exceso, la multitud, el color y la diversión. Quienes se acerquen a la ciudad po-drán asistir a múltiples actividades, desde la carre-ra ‘Mascarita, ponte tacón’, donde sólo participan hombres; al popular concurso de murgas, sin olvidar el gran certamen que es la guinda de las fiestas: la elección de la Reina del Carnaval. Festejo sin límite hasta el siempre triste Miércoles de Cenizas. Mardi Gras is the biggest party in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The city gets decked out and, for 40 days, the daily routine goes out the window as residents celebrate with plenty of excesses, crowds, colours and fun. Visitors will enjoy all kinds of activities, from the Mascarita, ponte tacón race (for men only) to the popular competition between street musicians, and should be sure not to miss the culminating event of the celebration: the election of the Carnival Queen. It’s a wild party up until the always sombre Ash Wednesday.

Palma y los demonios del genioPalma and the genius’s demons

El paisajismo fue un género clave en el auge de las vanguardias artísticas del siglo XX. Esta exposición busca demostrarlo a través de un recorrido por el género, desde el naturalismo de finales del XIX hasta el rupturismo, pasando por el impresionismo, el romanticismo y el noucentismo. Destacan las obras de Friedrich, Courbet, Van Gogh o Monet, y los españoles Martín Rico, Meifrén y Rusiñol. Landscape painting was a popular genre during the boom of the artistic vanguards of the 20th century. This exposition aims to demonstrate its prevalence with a journey through the landscape painting, from Naturalism, at the end of the 19th century, up to Rupturism, and continuing on to Im-pressionism, Romanticism and Noucentisme. It features the work of Friedrich, Courbet, Van Gogh and Monet, and Spanish artists Martín Rico, Meifrén and Rusiñol.

El centro de las artes valenciano repone una de sus producciones más aplaudidas: estrenada en 2007 y bajo la dirección de Lluís Pasqual, Plácido Domingo volverá a ponerse en la piel de Simon Boccanegra, de Verdi, uno de los papeles por el que más elogios ha recibido. Cinco funciones que representará junto a la soprano china Guanqun Yu y el tenor italiano Ivan Magrì. The Valencia Arts Centre is bringing back one of its most celebrated productions. Launched in 2007 under the direction of Lluís Pasqual, this opera stars Plácido Domingo as Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, a role for which he received much praise. Plácido Domingo will be joined by Chinese so-prano Guanqun Yu and Italian tenor Ivan Magrì for five performances.

Una de las obras capitales de Pablo Picasso, considerada antece-dente del Guernica (1937), es el eje sobre el que se articula esta ex-posición que reflexiona sobre el uso del Minotauro en el corpus del malagueño. Cada año, más de 600 bikers de todo el mundo dan el pistoletazo de salida a la tempo-rada en la Vuelta a Ibiza para Mountain Bike y Bicicletas de Carrera. El evento recorre en etapas una gran parte de la isla e incluye tres modalidades: vuelta clásica, para deportis-tas aficionados; vuelta de una semana completa, en la que se incluyen rutas guiadas; y el maratón por parejas, dos etapas cronometradas para ciclistas exigentes y preparados. Every year, more than 600 bikers from around the world kick off the season with the Vuelta a Ibiza (Spin around Ibiza) for Mountain Bikers and Road Bikers. The event covers a large part of the island and includes three categories: the classic spin, for sports aficio-nados; the week-long spin, which includes guided routes; and the two person marathon, which includes two timed sections and is intended for tough and experienced cyclists.

El viejo puerto, la avenida Mohamed VI (antigua avenida de España), la medina con su pequeño y su gran zoco, el área colonial, el hotel Minzah, el Café de París... Los esce-narios de las aventuras de Sira Quiroga, protagonista de la novela El tiempo entre costuras, de María Dueñas, devenida hoy en exitosa serie televisiva, se convierte en ruta turís-tica en la ciudad del norte de Marruecos. Accesible desde Algeciras gracias a los ferrys y alta velocidad de Trasmedi-terranea en hora y media o solo 45 minutos de travesía, recorrer sus calles significa evocar aquel puerto franco que en los años 30 del siglo pasado dio pie a historias e intrigas que todavía hoy siguen vigentes.
