Charleston Meeting Report

Over 200 registrants mingled at the CAOG Welcome Reception Wednesday night at the Exhibit Hall area. Thanks to everyone who visited our most valued industry supporters. Without them meeting registration fees would require a substantial increase. Thursday morning, spouses and guests met with Frank Parilla for breakfast followed by a mes-merizing presentation by Charleston’s own novelist, Dr. Roger Newman. The making of Dr. Newman’s debut medical thriller “Occam’s Razor” enthused the audience, who were each given an autographed copy during their personal visit with the author. The traditional Black Tie Banquet and Dinner Dance on Friday evening featured the Masker Band in the Crystal Ballroom, where Drs. Barbara Parilla and Suneet Chauhan presented CAOG Awards for the winning papers and posters.

The Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists conducted its 82nd Annual Meeting in Charleston, South Carolina at the Marriott Hotel from October 21 – 24, 2015. The scientific program was developed through the year with the long hard work of the Scientific Program Committee chaired by Dr. Suneet Chauhan, Secretary-Treasurer. Thanks to everyone for a great effort. The 3 daily sunrise lectures and 22 podium oral presentations were interspersed with hot topics, in-vited lectures and a 2 day poster session to offer a diverse, lively and academic scientific program. The general sessions were awarded 16.5 CME I hours and 17.0 cognate credits from ACOG. Hot topics highlighted surgical infections, pregnancy as a window to future health, migraine and stroke risk with estrogen, 3D mammography, gynecologic oncology update, non-invasive prenatal testing, fetal surgery advances and the challenge of near misses in labor and delivery. Dr. Sigrun Hallmeyer delivered the Keynote Address on “Cancer Survivorship: Navigating the Aftermath.” The Presidential Address by Dr. Barbara Parilla challenged OB-Gyn‘s to combat “The Epidemic of Opiate Dependency in Pregnancy.” CME programs involving personal interaction like the CAOG Annual Meeting also provide a stress free break from work, networking opportunities and foster pro-fessional well being along with education.

2015 PTO Fund Year End Contributions

The 2015 Annual Meeting at the Marriott Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina was a resounding success. Non-attendees missed a great event. After all the e-mails, faxes and tele-phone calls it’s always fun to personally see so many members again. We have wound down 2015, but here’s what you can expect in 2016 leading up to the Las Vegas grand finale. First the 2016 member dues billing and call for papers were mailed in early December. This gives everyone the tax option of paying in either 2015 or early 2016. Your prompt remit-tance is always most appreciated. The quarterly CAOG newsletters arrive electronically and contain current information. Please read them and frequently refer to them for reminders. The recent year’s newsletters are always online at the CAOG website. The CAOG needs to expand its membership. If you know anyone who would qualify for active or adjunct membership, encourage them to submit an application as soon as possi-ble. A copy can be downloaded from the CAOG website. The deadline is July 1st. Finally, please return the personal database update form mailed with the December dues statement. With fewer mailings we don’t always hear about recent changes. Expect a new Membership Directory to be compiled by Spring 2016.
