Our Together Reaching and equipping all ages for a lifetime of following Jesus

Life MONTHLY NEWSLETTER

Dec. 2019 / Jan. 2020

Dear Church Family, The Christmas season is a time when we celebrate THE Greatest Gift ever given to mankind! John 3:16 says it all regarding the gift of Jesus to be our Savior:

“God so loved the world that HE gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

As we celebrate Jesus and what He means to us we also celebrate that because of Jesus we are brought into the church, God’s community of believers who love one another and serve one another. As a church staff we know that we have been given the incredible gift and responsibility of serving this amazing part of the body of Christ at Ustick! Not a day goes by that we all don’t thank God for each of you as co-laborers with us in building His kingdom for His glory! Thank you for letting us serve with you and for joining us in celebrating this Christmas season.

May we all keep our eyes on Jesus throughout the Christmas season and into the New Year. We can’t wait to see what God is going to do in and through us all in 2020! May the Lord bless you and keep you. Sincerely in Christ,

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD COLLECTIONS AT UBC A note from Manny & Wen Li - the OCC Coordinators for this collection site:

“Praise God! The shoebox grand total is 13,095 with 555 from UBC. Each one is Gospel Opportunity!

Thank you for the huge support from the Church. We had great lunch yesterday, Karen and her team cooked us a feast. Shelley cared for us with coffee and snacks every day. There were many from your congregation that came and worked as volunteers! Praise God.”

WE HAD NEVER HEARD OF JESUS Every Operation Christmas Child shoebox you pack gives us an opportunity to reach one more child, one more family, with the Gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In the past few years, Samaritan’s Purse has seen more than 1,100 churches*** planted in 54 countries as GOD worked through the Operation Christmas Child project.

The LORD planted a new church in Botswana through the witness of these children, who came to faith through Operation Christmas Child and The Greatest Journey lessons.

Two years ago, La Laguna, Mexico had only four believers until an evangelist named Jose, a polio survivor, preached the Gospel and passed out shoebox gifts. They now have organized a new evangelical church.

In the African nation of Namibia, shoebox gifts were distributed in the village of Owupo then reached beyond to the Himba tribe, who had never heard the Gospel before. “Before Operation Christmas Child came, we had never heard of Jesus or knew who GOD was. Now we have abandoned witch doctors and seek God alone in prayer and worship.” More than 80 children and adults gather each week to worship Christ!

Our prayers for these new believers continue to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ, the gift of Eternity. ***photo above: one of the church plants through OCC

RECOGNITION of DARLENE ATKINSON For Dedicated Service with the Ustick Baptist Deaconesses

In recognition of our dear sister in Christ, Darlene Atkinson, who is stepping down from our Deaconess ministry after many years of service. Darlene has faithfully honored our God by serving as a Deaconess and many other ministries within Ustick Baptist Church. Her duties included being a Decision Counselor at our Worship services, Visitor to the Shut-ins, Communion preparation and or cleanup, Baptism assistance and also Coordinator of all Funeral receptions throughout these years. The Funeral receptions and Memorial Services would include a full lunch reception for family and friends or a lighter cookie reception. Darlene has been exemplary in coordinating these events by always making sure they were very comfortable for the families involved and also very honoring towards the person who has passed. Darlene always coordinated the volunteers who assisted in helping with these receptions.

Darlene was dedicated to consistently visiting our UBC shut-ins every week for years. Many times, her daughter Deane would accompany her or drive Darlene when she could. Thank you, Deane, for being available to serve with your mother as much as you do. You are a blessing to her and also the shut-ins you care for.

For years Darlene would take the wet rugs home after a Baptism and hang them over her clothesline to dry, then return them to the church. A few years ago, we purchased rectangle folding racks to dry the rugs here at the church. This was a tremendous help and a welcomed solution to the issue of the rugs.

With heartfelt thanks, we thank you, for the honor and privilege of serving our Lord with you.

Worship leaders Chris Tomlin, Jeremy Camp, Andy Mineo, and Phil Wickham will be there for this crusade!

WHY would we do this? Because we are committed as a church in “Reaching & Equipping all ages for a lifetime of following Jesus!” Boise Harvest with Greg Laurie is a great opportunity for our congregation to develop a deeper passion for evangelism, discipleship, and service. We'll have opportunities for spiritual growth and to use our gifts to: Invite. Everyone is encouraged to

bring their friends, family, and neighbors to come to the outreach and hear the gospel.

Serve. Committed volunteers are needed at the event to serve as ushers, decision follow-up workers, prayer room warriors, or on the security team.

Disciple. After the event, help will be needed at your church to welcome and disciple new believers who made professions of faith at the Boise Harvest.

HOW are we going to do this? Getting equipped to do the work of the ministry, together, by… Mobilizing our congregation with

Harvest’s support staff (already been happening!)

Please be praying about what God would have you do to be a part of our church’s efforts in this Boise Harvest 2020 Festival! If you have any questions talk to: Pastor Mike, Lynn Holman, or Mike Bowman. Or email me at pastormike @ustickbaptist.org thanks! “Seeing the people, He felt compassion on them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech (pray) the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.’” Matthew 9:36-38

We will host a live simulcast event broadcast from Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Join this incredible life changing movement of intentional Christian grandparenting from the Legacy Coalition Grandparenting Summit! Thousands will join from across our country and even some from Canada! Hundreds of grandparents will be joining us from our church and neighborhoods here locally in the Treasure Valley! You will be forever impacted over two jam-packed days of special speakers and worship leaders as they are broadcast in live from Birmingham! WHY would we host this event at UBC? Because we are all about “Reaching and equipping all ages for a lifetime of following Jesus!” Here are four statements from their website that fit our church vision! “We Believe...Grandparents can have an incredible impact on their grandchildren. Christian grandparents, when intentional, can have an equally incredible impact on the spiritual direction and destiny of their grandchildren. A national movement is underway. Grandparents are being awakened to their potential impact, and churches are realizing the value of the grandparent-grandchild relationship in pursuing their discipleship mission.” “Meeting the Need...Grandparents with incredible potential to influence the next generation are sitting in your pews, and they are generally overlooked, under-resourced, ignored, and mislabeled. Grandparents themselves often lack vision, need support and community, or don’t know of tools which can help. This event meets that need. You can expect some amazing sessions that will reveal what Scripture says about grandparenting, others that give practical insights and applications, and still others that inspire and encourage.”

“Impacting Your Mission...Grandparents are second only to parents in their potential for impacting the youngest generations in America. They have more potential for discipleship than any children’s or youth worker, yet that potential is typically unrealized. Christian grandparents love their grandchildren, yet many have not even thought of what they might do to impact them spiritually. We want to unleash their potential. It is happening in families all across America, and your church can be a catalyst to make that happen in the families that you touch!” “Bringing Renewal...Often, church leaders face tension between ministering to the youngest generations and, keeping the older half of their congregation content. A focus on grandparenting accomplishes both: it is ministering to the youngest generations, and it also engages that older half with a new passion. Churches are finding new vitality for their older congregants through encouraging them in their grandparenting role; if your church joins this national movement, you will discover the same.” Go to this Legacy Coalition website for more information at https://legacycoalition.com/ or to this website for more info about the Grandparenting Summit coming in September https://legacycoalition.com/summit/. Watch for more information and details coming soon! If you have any questions please contact Pastor Mike Beaudin by email at [email protected].

Awana Grand Prix Saturday Nov. 2 was our annual Awana Grand Prix Pine Wood Derby car race. This event is held every year and we packed 100+ kids with tiny wooden cars, along with their parents, grandparents and assorted relatives into the activity center for a rip roaring good time racing cars down the highly polished aluminum track!

This is always a big event for Awana and although the kids may not know it, it is held as much for the parents (especially dads) as it is for the kids. What a great opportunity to get kids together with their dad to work on a project and cheer each other on. The overall atmosphere was one of excitement and anticipation to see who would win a highly sought after Speed or Design Trophy. Most importantly, the Gospel was preached and a lot of bonding went on between families as they spent the morning together having fun. LOOK WHAT’S COMING UP! If you know how to sew and would be interested in making quilts (or learning how) we invite you to join us on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month 10am-2pm in the Fireside Room (except in December). You don’t need to bring anything but your lunch as we have all the supplies and equipment needed. If you know someone that could benefit from receiving a quilt (they do not necessarily have to be members of our church), please contact Ramona Ulrich 208-895-8265 or Marguerite Bear 208-340-4924. GOD’S GIRLS (widowed ladies & mature single ladies) Monday, Jan. 20 at 1pm we’ll have a potluck lunch. Please bring a potluck item to share as well as your own beverage. Plates, etc. will be provided. We’ll meet in the Fireside room.

Questions, contact Sharon Horsley at 208-392-1119.

Launch Pad Ministries provides Christian Release Time classes for high school students at 20 Treasure Valley high schools. The ministry’s vision is “to guide students to submit all of life to Jesus Christ, equip them to impact their public school campus through living out the gospel and to launch them into their God-given potential and purpose”.

If you live near a high school in the Treasure Valley, you are probably close to a Launch Pad class! There are many opportunities to volunteer and help the class at each school. Volunteer teaching, providing snacks or the occasional special event lunch of tacos or pizza is always welcome! Some classes need help cleaning the room, and some would welcome an extra volunteer during class time. If you are not able to help in those ways, please pray that these students will be strengthened in their faith, and pray that they will be moved to invite their friends to come learn about Jesus.

UBC supports Launch Ministries through funding of the Centennial High School location and volunteer support. If you or your Growth Group would like to provide a lunch for students, please call the UBC contacts listed above.

The National Network of Youth Ministries links youth workers for encouragement, spiritual growth, and sharing resources, in order to expose every teenager to the gospel of Jesus Christ, establish those who respond in a local church, and disciple them to help reach the world.

Cory has over 20 years experience working with youth in the Treasure Valley and is passionate about helping equip youth workers to reach our youth for Christ. There are currently four youth pastor pods in Idaho where youth pastors collaborate for equipping and encouraging each other in their ministry. See contact info above to become involved in serving with this ministry.
