Hyderabad, India: February Trip Impact With growing persecution in India and Nepal, we began praying for a new strategy to share the Gospel covertly. We believe one solution is Neighborhood Missionary Movements. Teams of ordinary believers target a neighborhood to prayer walk, serve (foot-washing), share (Jesus Film & Three Story Conversations) and disciple (Foundations Course) those who responded. We modeled this in three neighborhoods going 3-5 times over two weeks. Pray as our master trainers recruit and train ordinary families from their churches to do the same.

Celebrate Recovery: Launch of Large Group CR Celebrate Recovery in India now has step-study groups meeting in five languages. This year we introduced weekly Large Group CR to around 80 leaders. Thirty of them committed to trying it. This weekly service is open to the public and offers…a 12-step teaching, testimony, worship and breakout sharing time for anyone willing to share their struggle. It offers unchurched people a no-commitment first step towards joining a recovery step-study group where they can meet Christ and be transformed. Pray as 30 pastors form their ’teams to run these. Pray for many “first”transformations that will lead others to join.

Jesus Film: 13 teams, 9000 people in 9 months! In February we trained 10 teams, in August another three teams were commissioned. As reports have come in, the average team shared the Gospel using the Jesus Film or other Gospel films with 600 people every six months. Some are facing persecution and opposition. Pray God will provide the $35/month each team needs for travel to these unreached villages they are targeting. With this support, most of these teams can go every weekend to minister to share and disciple. In Nepal the greatest need is to print Foundations Course books for the follow up.

What motivates us to share? “For the love of Christ controls us.” 2 Cor 5:14

Famous missionary C.T.Studd, who gave up a fortune to follow Jesus, said,“If Jesus Christ be God and died for me, then no sacrifice can be too great for me to make for Him.”

What a great summary of the Gospel. But does the love of Christ control us anymore? Does it cause us to desire to sacrifice our own comforts and goals for the sake of His goals? What does He mention in this passage as the assignment He has for us?

“All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to Himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation…. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making His appeal through us.” 2 Corinthians 5:18a,20a

He wants to make His appeal through us to the people He created for the purpose of being in a love relationship with Him. This sounds simple, but most of us find it difficult to practice regularly. What gives?

Am I still in love with Jesus? I know I run dry. I get busy and neglect my intimacy with God. But if it’s through meditating on His love for us that we are motivated to go out and share with others… then how do we keep that intimate love with the Father more of a daily experience? These might help…

loving presence heightened. My faith has grown too as I sense He is near.

2. Can’t do this alone? Pray Together Maybe you’ve had the same experience I’ve had… you start off strong doing a spiritual discipline, but then it doesn’t last. We’ve found weekly prayer with 1-2 others helps us continue to care for and share Christ with others. My friends Ron & Diane Rissmiller meet weekly with us. We work on the administration of the ministry, but we also “check in” on our heart for God and for the lost. We share updates on our list of people we want to see trust in Christ. We believe God planted us in this time and place to share with those around us. He is at work in people’s lives and as we pray, we are joining Him. God is honoring this! We’ve all found ourselves sharing more.

Who can you pray with this coming year? Set a weekly time and place. Just start and watch God grow your heart and your faith. You can pray for: His love for them to compel you, His power to open your life and mouth! His grace to work beyond your fears and weaknesses.

Family Update: Jen is homeschooling our four kids in community with other families who want to see their children grow up to know and serve the Lord in what is called Classical Conversations. The kids also do P.E. and math through the public school near our house. Please pray for opportunities to minister to both sets of families…mutually encouraging the believers and sharing Christ in word and deed with those not yet following Him. We’re also planning to join an intensive put on by the We Are Church movement started by Francis Chan. We hope to use what we learn both for our church-planting movements in South Asia and for our local disciple-making movement goals.
