The Rev. Dr. Shirlyn Henry Brown is currently the Director of Connection Ministries of the Peninsula Delaware Conference of The United Methodist Church. “Pastor B” as she is lovingly known has a passion for kingdom building, kingdom living and loving the one and only King Jesus. The Rev. Dr.

Shirlyn Henry Brown Shirlyn was from Odessa, Delaware and raised in Do-ver, Delaware. She completed her Bachelors and Masters degrees at Kan-sas State University where she began her journey into student leadership, visioning, training and implementing programs, using her creative strengths. She accepted her call to ministry in the Peninsula-Delaware Conference at Lee Haven UMC and Whatcoat UMC. Shirlyn received her M.Div. from Palmer Theological Seminary in PA in 2005 and her D.Min. at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC in 2011. Theatre and the arts have always been a teaching instrument in her call to ministry. With over twenty years of experience in Higher Education and community out-reach, Shirlyn has a passion for serving the Creator in new and innovative ministries; while building on the firm foundation in Jesus Christ, the Lord. Dr. Brown was ordained as Elder in 2008. As a pastor, she has been re-

sponsible for leading her congregations in making disciples for Jesus Christ. She has been a serv-ant leader-shepherd as a minister of campus outreach at Whatcoat, as student pastor at Mt. Pleas-ant/Quindocqua and as senior pastor at both Mt. Zion/St. James and Mt. Calvary/Hurlock

As the Director of Connectional Ministries the conference resource team has increased our minis-tries in several areas; a Small Membership Church training, a Local Pastor Licensing School and a Growing & Gathering Together for African American Pastors. In addition Dr. Brown has presented at The Fellowship of United Methodist Music and Worship Arts 2013 Conference on “Drama as a Bridge to Diversity”, the design team for the 2014, “Rt. 122 – Discern, Develop and Send” Confer-ence and serves as the Vice Chair to the Northeast Jurisdiction Director of Connectional Ministries group.

Shirlyn has one daughter, Angel and a son-in-law Michael, a step-daughter Tiffany Draper and four grandchildren Moira and Brendan Heinz, Indya and Omar Draper. As a mom, grandmother, pastor and friend, Pastor B believes in her heart that - "It is not about us, but all about God!" Her favorite scripture is Acts 11:15-17, “And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning. Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?”

Bishop Peggy A. Johnson is pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Dr. Shirlyn Henry Brown as the Easton District Superintendent effective July 1, 2015 upon the retirement of Rev. Gary Moore.

Young Men of Promise allows our young men to interact with African Ameri-can men who are positive, successful members of our community. Men’s Welcome Center Homeless men are invited on Saturdays, 10 AM – 2 PM to do laundry, take a shower, get a haircut and take part in Christian fellowship. God’s Kitchen A community outreach program hosted by Grace UMC addresses the need for meals and health services for the homeless and impoverished. Thirty-two organizations host a lunch each Saturday, 11:00 am- 12:30 pm.

First a big thank you to all the volunteers who give their time on Saturdays to move this ministry forward. Also, an enormous thank you to all the local churches that provide essential supplies to bless these men each week.

Each Saturday is an on-going double blessing. We minister to a range of men numbering 15 to almost 30 each week. Over time we have also noticed and thanked God that the men are responding to our openness. They are more socia-ble, more considerate and more helpful. One homeless man has offered his bar-bering skills to help the men spruce up their appearance. Others are doing their own cleaning after themselves in the bathrooms and keeping the common room neat and tidy. On really busy days, one of the younger men has also offered to help doing their laundry. God constantly bowls us over as we see his hand at work in our very midst. And His light continues to brighten all over lives together.
