What is Forensic Science?

Is it this? Some, but

we will also critique these shows.

It is the application of science to law!

Crime Scenes & Evidence Collection

Crime scenes are about careful observations.

Evidence collection is about details. All evidence must be collected in specific manners and carefully logged.

Physical Evidence

All of these are pieces of physical evidence, as well as much more.

Physical Properties

Same properties as in any other class: Mass, density, temperature, refractive

index, color phase, etc.

Analysis based on organic properties:

Drugs

Drugs have become the primary job for crime labs.

Toxicology

What do drugs do to your body and how are they detected?

Serology

How is your blood affected by different reactions?

Blood typing is a standard serology technique.

DNA

DNA- the irrefutable proof DNA typing has many different uses.

Arson & Explosions

What can assist in arson? How do we analyze an explosion?

Firearms, Tool Marks & Impressions

A lot of comparisons go into the anaylaysis of these.

Document & Voice Analysis

These are tools used for comparison.

Case Analysis

Each of you will do a case analysis of a different case.
