DEAR RAEDear Rae Jewellery is made up of natural lines and simplistic forms translated into: gold and silver with the occasional gemstone. These delicate and effortless pieces celebrate the beauty and ease of simplicity and translate into functional jewellery, created to be worn everyday.

Karin Rae Matthee’s love for jewellery began at Stellenbosch University where she studied a BA fine Art (Jewellery and Metal Techniques) and in 2008 completed a semester at the Pforzheim Hochschule in Germany. After this, drawing on inspirations from her diverse South African and German familial heritage, Karin was inspired to launch Dear Rae in 2010.

Karin’s passion for empowering and employing local South Africans has been a driving force in the business. Each Dear Rae piece is designed and made by Karin and her five hand picked manufacturers at her Cape Town based studio. The studio and workshop create one space, allowing the ancient art of jewellery making to be exposed to all who visit.

At Dear Rae we believe that each piece of jewellery is a treasured adornment. Working with solid sterling silver and gold, each ring, pendant and bracelet is made to tell a story of it’s own. Our aim is to create timeless pieces using ethically sourced and recycled materials. Our ethos is to create simply, but well.

CAREAt Dear Rae, we believe in creating sustainable jewellery that can be worn and treasured for years to come. All Dear Rae pieces are made of solid gold or sterling silver, which means the colour will never fade or wear off.

We suggest the following care to be taken:

Beauty products such as perfume, sun cream or deodorant should be applied before putting on jewellery. Jewellery should be removed prior to swimming or performing household chores which may involve the use of abrasive cleaners or chemicals.

Silver

The most effective way to retain silver’s bright lustre is to wear it regularly. If however it is kept in the open for long periods of time, unworn silver may tarnish (depending on the climate you live in).

Page 24: Dear Rae Wholesale Catalogue
Page 25: Dear Rae Wholesale Catalogue

To remove tarnish:

Rub with silver cleaning cloth or a piece of pink/grey platinum paper. Alternatively, use an old, soft toothbrush or cloth, hot water and soap to lightly scrub over the surface. Rinse in clean, hot water and dry the jewellery in a soft cloth.

9ct Yellow Gold

Gold will never turn or change. To keep gold jewellery looking its best, it simply needs to be worn regularly and polished with a cloth or pink/grey platinum paper.

ETHICAL PRACTICEDear Rae is a proudly South African company specialising in handmade jewellery from its manufacturing studio in Cape Town.

It is evident in the team of ten South Africans working at Dear Rae how important it is to us to educate, employ and empower locals to create a more sustainable community.

We practice high standards of craftsmanship and ethics in our workshop and take pride in creating timeless pieces using ethically sourced stones and recycled silver and gold.
