ISRAEL UPDATE -- February 2, 2018Trump and Netanyahu Meet in DavosOn January 25th, President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, to discuss several bilateral and regional issues. In his remarks, President Trump said that the U.S.-Israel relationship has “never been stronger.” He continued, “Israel has always supported the United States, so what I did with Jerusalem was my honor,” referring to his announcement to move the embassy to Israel’s capital, Jerusalem. This was the first meeting between the two world leaders since the president’s Jerusalem announcement, which Prime Minister Netanyahu called “a historic decision that will be forever etched in the hearts of our people for generations to come.” Netanyahu also commended the United States for “[standing] up for Israel at the U.N. in a remarkable way” and for “confront[ing] Iran’s aggression, with us and with other parties in the region as never before.” President Trump also discussed possible peace negotiations between Israelis and the Palestinians. “I’ve said it from day one, if we could make peace between Israel and the Palestinians. If we do that, I would consider that one of our truly great achievements,” said President Trump.
