Dear Children We hope that you are well and healthy. Life is very different at the moment, but we want you to know that even though we are not together we are thinking about you. Your teachers have planned some learning that we think you will find enjoyable. Every day there will be three activities for you to complete, you can return it to your teacher via teams. We would like you to try and complete the three activities but as life is very different and we are all adjusting and adapting it is more important that you stay healthy and happy. If on one day you only complete one activity you are not to worry. Some of you are learning about things that interest you and that is wonderful, we are very proud of what you have achieved. Please could you share it with us? Finally, please try and read at least once a day if you can. Remember you can read anything, books, rules from games, instructions, recipes, subtitles to a film. Reading really is the most important thing you can do. We are all looking forward to seeing your incredible work because we know that you will try your best and have a go. Take care. Mrs Coombes

Reading: Listen to and read along with the

fantastic story of 'Elmer': David McKee is reading the story. He is the author of the book:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFrD18XLmlM&t=40s

Writing - Elmer: Elmer was a patchwork elephant. He was a friend to all. Can you describe Elmer? Start with his appearance (e.g. his size, body parts and colours). Extend your description to include his personality (e.g. he makes others laugh, he plays tricks) and how he moves (quickly or slowly?) Remember to include 'wow' words (include adjectives and adverbs). Read your writing and use a purple pencil to add further information or correct your mistakes.

Monday 29th JuneMathematics and Numeracy

You will need: 20 small objects to be your elephants (e.g.

lego/pasta/buttons/crayons), paper and a pencil

Daily Maths Warm Up:Click here to view your daily maths warm up video

Add and subtract 3 numbers within 10 e.g. 3 + 2 + 4 = 9, 8-2-3=3Draw 3 big circles on a piece of paper. Put 10 elephants into a bowl then when closing your eyes, take a handful of elephants and put them in to one of the circles. Repeat for the other 2 circles. How many elephants are there altogether? Try this a few times. Have a go at subtracting. Remember to start with the largest number.

Add a string of numbers, recognising bonds of 10 eg 3+5+7= 15 because 3+7=10 and 10+5=15Draw 3 big circles on a piece of paper. Solve the sums below by putting the elephants into the circles then adding them up. Remember to look out for number bonds of 10 to help you.4+2+6= 2+8+5= 9+3+1= 7+5+3= 6+3+4 = 3+3+7 = Challenge: 16+4+3=

Find 2 more for numbers up to 20 by counting forwardElmer's Party: 5 elephants are dancing at Elmer's party when 2 more arrive, how many elephants are there altogether? The doorbell rings and another 2 arrive, how many elephants are there now? Suddenly, 2 more elephants turn up with balloons, how many elephants are there now? Keep practising adding 2 more by adding more guests to Elmer's party.

Addition: Elmer Activities

Tuesday 30th JuneMathematics and Numeracy

You will need: 20 objects which you can stack (e.g.

lego/duplo/wooden blocks/books)

Know bonds within 10 (e.g. 5+4 = 9, 3+4 = 7) and bonds of 10 (e.g. 5+5=10 8+2=10)Using 7 blocks, build two towers. How many blocks are in each tower? Can you write that as an addition sum? How many different ways can you build two towers using your 7 blocks? Now try with 8 blocks and 9 blocks.Challenge: Finally use 10 blocks to build two towers, can you find more than 3 different ways to make 10?

Use bonds to 10 to work out bonds to 20 e.g. if you know 6 +4 =10, you can work out that 16+4=20?First write out all the bonds of 10. Next use all your 20 blocks to build two towers. How many blocks are in each tower? Can you write that as an addition sum? How many different ways can you make two towers using 20 blocks?Challenge: Use your number bond of 10 facts to help you work out these tricky questions:4+6 = 10 3+7 = 10 2+8=10 1+9=104+? = 20 13+? =20 ?+18= 20 1+?= 20

Explore bonds of 6 e.g. 5+1=6Using 6 blocks, build two towers. How many blocks are in each tower? Can you write that as an addition sum? How many different ways can you build two towers using your 6 blocks? Challenge: Can you work out the inverse sums using your blocks to help you: 6 – 3 = 6 – 1 = 5 + ? = 6 ? + 4 = 6

Addition: Towers

Bonus challenge: Can you make a bond of 100?

Wednesday 1st JulyMathematics and Numeracy You will need: paper,

scissors and pens and another family member!

Know and have instant recall of bonds within 10 and especially bonds to 10 (verbal and written problems involving + and -). Introduce the notion of a symbol to represent a missing number.Write the numbers 1-10 on a piece of paper and cut them up to make number cards. Choose a family member to play with! Shuffle the cards and turn one over, the first person to shout out a bond to make that number gets a point. When all the cards have been played, the winner is the person with the most points. GOOD LUCK!

Write the numbers 1-20 on a piece of paper and cut them up to make number cards. Choose a family member to play with! Shuffle the cards and turn one over, the first person to shout out a bond to make that number gets a point. When all the cards have been played, the winner is the person with the most points. GOOD LUCK!

Know and have instant recall of bonds to 6Write the numbers 1-6 on a piece of paper and cut them up to make number cards. Choose a family member to play with! Shuffle the cards and turn one over, the first person to shout out a bond to make that number gets a point. The first person to 10 points is the winner. GOOD LUCK!

Addition: Number bond card game

Recall all bonds within 20, most of them instantly, others using quick strategies.

Bonus challenges: 7+?= 10 6+?= 10 ?+2= 10 ?+5= 10

Oracy: Greeting Our Friends: When Elmer met jungle animals on his walk, he greeted them politely and walked on by. Many of us haven’t seen our own friends recently. Can you think of different questions you can ask when you can see them again? What questions might you ask? (E.g. If they are well? How they are feeling? What have they been up to?)Make a list to remind you.

Writing: Hello Again!Write a letter to your friend to 'catch-up' on all your news and gossip! Use the ideas from above to find out information from your friend and their family. Don't forget to tell them what you have been doing too. If you ask a question, remember to use a question mark. If you tell a joke, can you use an exclamation mark? Use a purple pencil to correct your own work. Send your letter to your friend.

...and something else...

Activity: Make a friend laugh! Think of different ways to make them smile.

Example: Pull a funny face, do a wacky dance, make up a silly song!

Friday 3rd JulyMathematics and Numeracy

You will need: Your doubling ladybirds from yesterday, a

small piece of paper, a pen or pencil, scissors

Daily Maths Warm Up: Chinese Dragon ordering https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ordering-and-sequencing/chinese-dragon-ordering

Know doubles and, from them, know near-doubles up to 10+10 e.g. 5+5=10 so 5+4= 9First draw a black spot on a piece of paper and cut it out – this will be an extra ladybird spot. Now use your doubling ladybirds to work out the near doubles sums, add an extra spot if you are adding 1 more or put your finger on a spot if you are taking 1 away. 5+5 = 6+6= 7+7= 8+8= 9+9= 10+10=

5+4= 6+7= 7+6= 8+9 8+9= 11+10 =

Use simple doubles to calculate near-doubles E.g. 26+25 34+35First double these larger numbers: 20+20= 25 +25 = 30+30= 35+35= 40+40= 45+45= 50+50=

(To help with your adding, you could use pens for 10s and crayons for 5s)Now use your larger doubles to help you solves these near doubles questions. You just need to add 1 more or take 1 off your doubles answer. 20+20= 25+25 = 30+30= 35+35= 40+40= 45+45= 50+50=

20+21= 24+25= 30+31= 35+36= 40+39= 45+44= 51+50=

Know doubles up to 5+5=10 and introduce concept of near doubles e.g. 4+4 =8 so 4+5=9First draw a black spot on a piece of paper and cut it out – this will be an extra ladybird spot. Now use your doubling ladybirds to work out the near doubles sums, add an extra spot if you are adding 1 more or put your finger on a spot if you are taking 1 away. 3+3 = 1+1= 2+2= 4+4= 5+5=

3+4 = 1+2= 1+2= 4+3 = 5+6=

Addition: More Doubling Ladybirds
