    FIST: The hand is tightly closed and the

    thumb is across the fingers.

    BUNCHED HAND: The finger ends andthumb are bunched together.

    CLAWED HAND: The fingers are extendedand bent and spread apart.

    BENT HAND: The fingers are straight andtogether and bent at the palm knuckles.

    OPEN HAND: The fingers and thumb arestraight and spread apart.

    C HAND: The hand is closed with index fingerand thumb extended and curved in a C shape.

    O HAND: The tip of the index finger touchesthe tip of the thumb to form an O shape.

    BASIC HANDSHAPES

    CLOSED HAND: The hand is closed and the

    thumb is against the index finger.

    FLAT HAND: The fingers are straight andtogether.

    IRISH T HAND: (From T in Irish finger-spelling). The hand is closed with the indexfinger bent round the top of the thumb.

    L HAND: The hand is closed with the indexfinger and thumb extended in L shape.

    Y HAND: The hand is closed with the littlefinger and thumb extended.

    FULL C HAND: The thumb is curved and thefingers are held together and curved in a C shape.

    FULL O HAND: The tips of fingers andthumb are held together to form an O shape.

    N HAND: The index and middle fingers areextended, straight and held together.

    M HAND: The index, middle and ring fingersare extended, straight and held together.

    V HAND: The index and middle fingers areextended and spread apart.

    * Fingers are identified (from the thumb) as index,middle finger, ring finger and little finger.

    * Signs are drawn and described as right-handed

    with right hand written R. and left hand L.
