Four campers, Noah Lopez, Daniel Roland, Dustee Roland, and Preston

Womack, left with me last Sunday afternoon to go attend Session 3 at

Mountain View Christian Camp, which is located in the mountains near

Alto, New Mexico. This camp was started in 1961 by the Sunset Church

of Christ in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Originally built on a mountain near

Sacramento, New Mexico, and called Skyridge Christian Youth Camp, the

camp moved in 2001 to the present location north of Ruidoso after a forest fire

destroyed the original structures.

Days at Mountain View include an early morning assembly around the flag, three

great meals, chores, canteen, chapel, free time, group recreation, cabin devotionals,

and Bible study (twice daily). I taught class twice a day -- other teachers were from

Arlington (Jay and Virginia Hickey, formerly of Midland), Carlsbad, NM, Coahoma,

Dripping Springs, Midland, and Tarzan. Our curriculum focused on being

"extraordinary" in regard to love, influence, integrity, attitude, and self-discipline.

Cindy taught with me last year, but because of concerns about her heart, her doctor

recommended that she not make the trip this time. I appreciate all who have prayed

for us as we traveled and spent the week together. Special thanks to Sheila Hernandez

and Nita Holland, who equipped our group to make a long trip more enjoyable.
