Honoring Servants
When James’ and John’s mother asked Jesus to favor her
sons by allowing them to sit at His right and left hand in the
kingdom of God, Jesus circled up His twelve disciples for a
teachable moment. He said,
“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them,
and their great men exercise authority over them. It is not
so among you, but whoever wishes to become great among
you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first
among you shall be your slave; just as the Son of Man did
not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a
ransom for many.” Matt 20:25-28
The reason that serving others is true greatness is because
serving is Christ-like. Someone has said that a Christian is
never more like Jesus than when he or she is serving.
Around First Baptist we desire to cultivate a culture of
serving. Those who have been served by Jesus now serve
others in His Name.
Deacon Ordination: This Sunday night, August 21st, we
will ordain three new deacons – Jody Singleton, Wesley
Wells and Larry Whittington. Back in July, the church
family recognized the serving gifts and qualities of a deacon
in these men. Our ordained deacons have conducted an
ordination council to examine and confirm them and now
we ‘set them apart’ for deacon service. You’ll want to be in
attendance Sunday night to encourage these three men as
they share their testimonies and receive the confirmation of
our ordained men through the ‘laying on of hands’.
Teacher Appreciation Sunday: Next Sunday, August
28th, we will honor another group of servants among us –
our teachers. These men and women study, pray, prepare
and present the Word of God to us every week. Now that’s
a high calling requiring great commitment! These servants
are worthy of honor. We will recognize and pray for them
in the Morning Worship Service and with a special evening
dinner. Be sure to sign up if you’d like to attend the meal.
I thank all of you who serve the Lord and His Church in so
many various capacities. First Baptist Church is greatly
blessed of God to have many faithful servants. Make sure
you know your spiritual gift and use it well to make us a
better church!

A journey undertaken by a group with a
specific purpose.
Parents of 6th graders please join me as we begin this jour-
ney with teenagers. This is a time to prepare mentally,
emotionally, and spiritually for the journey in the coming
years of your leadership in your teenager’s life. Prepara-

expedition with a little preparation helps when the storms
come, the trail is lost, or the equipment breaks
down. Please RSVP your family for Expedition Six that

FBC Ministry Center
Hey, ladies! It's time to get the Cross Connections Café
going for the new year! We would love for you to join us
for our Coffee Connection on Saturday, August 20th,
9:00 AM, in the Ministry Center! A fun morning is
planned of celebrating the connections and growth we
experienced last year, enjoying yummy food and sweet fel-
lowship, and hearing some of the opportunities for connect-
ing, growing, and serving that we have planned for our
women in the coming months! You will want to be there!
It is true that we all have busy schedules and many life de-
mands, and we want to encourage you to set aside time this
coming year to invest in your relationship with Christ and
with other women who are on this life journey around
you. We value your time, and our desire is to offer oppor-
tunities and experiences that will help us grow in our rela-
tionship with Christ, connect with other women, and serve
our community out of the overflow He gives.
To help us best prepare for you, please sign up in the foyer
or through the link on our Facebook page.
We look forward to celebrating a great time together with
you soon!
Happy 1 Year Anniversary
Heather Armstrong!
Please join us in congratulating Heather
Armstrong, Church Secretary, in com-
pleting one year of service here at First
Baptist and to our Lord. Heather began
serving the church on August 17, 2015.
She has been God’s blessing to all of us. Please take time to
let her know how much you appreciate all she does for our
church and our Lord.
Dear Friends,
Thank you for your compassionate donations. Your gener-
osity has made it possible, for several children, to get the
supplies they needed. I do so appreciate your being an im-
portant part of our HES team.
Sincerely,
Carmen Neiswanger, Principal
Dear Church Family,
