Subject: Computer Science Library Development Plan
Dear Fellow CS Faculty,
Attached is our draft library development plan for the next 3-5 years for approval of the Dean/President and eventually for submission to the library for action/implementation.
Please review the tentative list of textbooks/references particularly for subjects that you are you have been handling in the past, currently handling or planning to handle in the near future. You may suggest additions, deletions, etc. that you deem necessary (i.e., in a separate sheet, indicating your name and the subject/s where the addition or deletion is suggested).
The tentative list of books was extracted from the syllabi that you submitted during the PAASCU Re-survey as well as selections from books available from Pearson Education Asia – Higher Education (http://www.pearsoned-asia.com/he/he.asp). Pearson Education Asia carries most of the titles that we need to support our academic programs (with books from Addison-Wesley, Prentice Hall and Benjamin Cummings, among others).
Please pass this memo to the next in the list as soon as you are done (so that we can save on paper).
Thank you for your usual support and cooperation.
Gerry S. DorojaChair, CS Department

ARTICLE VIIILIBRARY
Section 21. Librarian(s). - HEIs offering ITE should have at least a one (1) full-time librarian with a degree in Library Science [or a licensed librarian]. The librarian(s) shall participate in faculty meetings and activities and serve as (a) member(s) of the educational program planning committee.
The librarian(s) should be encouraged to join recognized librarian societies and associations for professional development.
Section 22. Book Collection. - The library collection of the HEI should meet the following requirements, namely:
22.1. To support HEI’s curricular needs and to provide enough books for students, its library should have at least five (5) titles per subject and one (1) volume per subject of a particular year of the curriculum for every ten (10) students enrolled in that year. At least twenty percent (20%) of the books should have been published within the last four (4) years.
22.2. The library should include significant holdings of up-to-date computer [books,] magazines, journals and periodicals that are published locally and internationally, including at least two (2) local and two (2) foreign publications.
22.3. Students must have available programming languages, and system manuals, licensed software packages, as well as documentation of materials related to the development and use of systems.
22.4. Electronic library materials such as CD-ROM’s [or via the Internet] may be considered as [additional] library holdings [beyond the minimum requirements,] if they are easily accessible for reading, and that the desired materials can be readily printed. [In this regard, sufficient equipment and enough quantity should be made available.]
Section 23. Space Requirements. - The library should have a seating capacity of at least five percent (5%) of the total students enrolled. The total library space should at least be [60 sq.m. or 2 square meters] [2.5 square meters] per student.
Note:For Master of Science Program
At least five (5) titles of graduate reference books on specialized discipline in every subject offered under the program
Use of CD-ROMs, Internet and other education technologies is encouraged Library requirements shall be accessible to the graduate students
