The Affordable Choice

Getting Financial Aid Applying for financial aid is not as complicated as you may think! Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and indicate that you are planning to attend Daytona State College. Daytona State College’s Title IV School Code is 001475. This application is required to determine eligibility for all sources of federal financial aid. Please access FAFSA on the Web at www.fafsa.gov to complete your application. FAFSA worksheets are available in the Financial Aid Services Office on the Daytona Beach Campus and on branch campuses.

It’s quick, it’s easy and if you follow these eight simple steps, you’ll be enrolled in classes and ready to go!

1. Apply for AdmissionComplete an application for admission on campus in Admissions or anywhere you have Internet access at www.DaytonaState.edu. Request to have your high school or GED transcripts and college transcripts, if any, forwarded to Daytona State College.

2. Apply for Financial AidStudents should apply for financial aid as soon as possible. Financial Aid is available to students enrolled in an eligible program to assist in meeting educational expenses. Applicants should complete the FAFSA at www.fafsa.gov to determine eligibility. Processing time is 4-6 weeks. Daytona State College scholarships are also available with an online application at www.DaytonaState.edu/scholarships.

3. Placement TestingFulfill placement requirements by taking the PERT for college credit programs or the TABE for vocational credit programs. If you have previous coursework or have taken the CPT, SAT, ACT, AP or IB, please submit official records to Admissions to possibly waive the testing requirement.

4. Academic AdvisingMeet with an academic advisor to interpret your placement test scores and discuss program requirements. We recommend meeting with an advisor prior to registering for the first time. Students are also encouraged to register with Career Services at this time.

5. OrientationConveniently complete the orientation requirement via FalconNet Online Services at www.DaytonaState.edu. This requires your Login and Personal Identification Number (PIN).

6. RegistrationPerform a course search at www.DaytonaState.edu and then register online via your FalconNet Online Services (Requires Login and PIN) or at any campus Falcon Center. Remember to print your Schedule and Fee Statement to review your bill due date after registering.

7. Pay for ClassesPay for your classes either online via your FalconNet Online Services or in person at the Office of Student Accounts at any campus. REMEMBER – you are not officially registered until you have paid in full.

8. Get Your Student I.D., Parking Decal, and Books

Student Clubs & ActivitiesMeet other students who share common interests by taking advantage of programs such as leadership workshops and retreats, entertainment events and lectures. Earn scholarships by taking on leadership roles in various student clubs and organizations. Find out about graduation ceremonies, off-campus housing and student clubs and organizations, or enjoy a game of pingpong or foosball between classes.

Culture & entertainmentDaytona State College provides a wide range of cultural programs including dance, drama, instrumental music and choral/vocal music. There is a full schedule of programming for the fall and spring semesters of the Daytona State College Symphonic Band, Civic Orchestra and Choral Concerts, plays (dramatic and musical) and dance productions. Admission is free for students at most events when you present your Daytona State College ID card. Events are held on campus and at the News-Journal Center.

CuisineCafé 101 is a teaching café and kitchen operated entirely by Daytona State College students, who are gaining hands-on experience in an actual restaurant setting on our Daytona Beach campus under the direction of our chef instructors. Open to the public, Café 101 offers a fine dining environment with a fixed-price menu.

FitnessHave fun and get fit. Improve your mind, body and spirit at the L. Gale Lemerand Health, Wellness and Education Center, which houses the Lemerand Aquatic and Fitness centers. These facilities are available to currently enrolled students for a nominal fee. In addition to the Aquatic and Fitness Centers, the Lemerand Center also is home to the Falcons’ 1,000-seat gymnasium.

AthleticsDuring the past four years, the Daytona State College athletic teams have won eight combined state academic titles.

Daytona State College’s NJCAA Division I varsity athletic program includes men’s basketball and baseball, men’s and women’s swimming & diving, and women’s basketball, golf and fast-pitch softball. If you compare our facilities to other state colleges around the country, you will find that we have some of the best athletic, wellness and training resources available. The College provides its students with an all-around sports complex, including the L. Gale Lemerand Health, Wellness and Community Education Center, indoor pool with diving boards, two top-notch playing fields and a field house. The Academic Support CenterThe Academic Support Center provides college-wide learning assistance and support to Daytona State College classes. ASC services are designed to help students develop the educational skills and strategies essential for academic achievement while supporting the faculty through the delivery of instruction and supplemental learning resources critical to their curricula. The Center welcomes all students and offers a variety of programs and services to maximize academic success. In addition to technology-mediated learning, the ASC offers peer and professional tutoring, online tutoring, and supplemental instruction. Available on all campuses, each Center is a multimedia facility that is designed to supplement classroom teaching and learning activities. Together, the faculty and staff of the Academic Support Center are committed to enhancing your success as a student.

College Writing CenterWhen you visit the College Writing Center, you’ll get highly individualized assistance with your writing -- on any subject and at any stage in the writing process. Whether it’s for a course, personal project, resumé, or scholarship essay, we’ll listen to your needs and help you find and further develop your strengths as a writer. This free service is offered to all Daytona State College students.

Florida OnlineYour classroom can be wherever you are! Through the Florida Online system, students may obtain degrees and certificates with few or no campus visits required. Currently, students may obtain an AA, BAS, or BSET degree online. Totally online courses are conducted via the Internet, with instructor contact made through emails, discussions, chat sessions, and other communication technologies.

Florida Online also offers courses that are partially online. These are courses that require both online sessions and campus visits. Time on campus varies from 25 to 75 percent of the total course hours.
