The University f!! Dayton DAYTON BACH SOCIETY'S 1990-91 SEASON INCLUDES CONCERTS TO HONOR MOZART
News Release
DAYTON, Ohio, April 20, 1990--The Dayton Bach Society, under the
direction of Richard Benedum, professor of music at the University of
Dayton, has announced plans for the 1990-91 season, including several
performances in honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart.
The first concert will feature J.S. Bach's "Christmas Oratorio" on
Nov. 11, and a traditional Christmas concert will be performed on Dec. 9
and 16.
On Feb. 22 and 24, the mus1c of Mozart will be highlighted in a
performance of one of his several "Missa brevis" settings written for the
Archbishop of Salzburg. The concert will include additional chamber music.
The March 17 performance will feature Johannes Brahms' "New Love-
Song Waltzes" as well as settings of William Shakespeare texts by George
Shearing. The season will close with a performance of Mozart's "Mass in C
Minor", K. 427 ("the Great"), in honor of the 200th anniversary of his
birth.
In addition, the Bach Society hopes to bring Viennese forte-pianist
Richard Fuller to Dayton to perform a special concert of Mozart's music on
the forte-piano, the type of piano that Mozart would have known and for
which he would have written.
