Welcome to JTED Culinary Arts!

• Locate the pair to the card you were given at the door. Write your name on the scrap of colored construction paper on your desk.

• If you have completed your enrollment paperwork, you will stay in the classroom for JTED Olympics!

• If you do not have your enrollment paperwork completed you will join Ms. Wilsey in the Dining Room to fill out the necessary information and will join us tomorrow for more JTED Olympics!

Now… for our Culinary Events:

Rules

• Meet with your team members (Based on

paper squares- Blue, Black, Red, Yellow,

Green)

• Do not start events until instructed to do so.

• When the instructor signals, stop what you

are doing and listen for further instructions.

• Demonstrate good sportsmanship at all

times!

• Have fun!

Trivia

• Answer the Olympic Trivia Questions.

• When you are finished, put your pencil/pen

away and turn your paper over.

• Further instructions will follow!

Competition #4

Puzzle

• Objective: assemble puzzle as a group in the

time allowed (3 min.).

• Supplies: puzzles

• Skills: accuracy, sportsmanship,

teamwork, concentration, time

management

Hitting the Target

• Objective: Points are earned for dropping

straws into bottles.

• Four chairs with seats facing participants.

Kneel on chair and attempt to drop straws

into bottle on floor without leaning or going

below back of chair. Only drop one straw at

a time and hand must not go below the top of

the chair

• 10 straws given to each person for their

attempt.

• At the end of 3 minutes, bottles are collected

to count total number of straws.

Competition #2

Straw Drop

• Objective: drop the most straws into bottles

from the distance of one chair height in the time

allowed (3 min.).

• Supplies: straws and bottles

• Skills:

precision, sportsmanship, concentration, time

management

Competition #1

Marshmallow and Spaghetti Tower

• Objective: build the tallest tower using the

items supplied in the time allowed (10

min.).

• Supplies: marshmallows and spaghetti

• Skills: teamwork, sportsmanship, effective

use of supplies, time management,

communication

Competition #3

Spoon/Dice Race

• Objective: rotating around the table, roll the pair

of dice, collecting a spoon by rolling pair of “4’s”.

the team that collects the most amount of

spoons in the time (1 min.) allowed wins.

• Supplies: dice and spoons

• Skills: sportsmanship, time

management, speed

Key Pad Challenge

• Objective: Get as many members of your team

to complete numbered sequence in 3 minutes.

• 3 x 3 post-it are numbered 1-30 and placed

randomly on large poster paper.

• Individuals will be lined up 10 feet from wall. At

the signal, individuals will race to “key pad” and

tap numbers in sequence, calling out numbers

as they touch. If they hit a number out of

sequence, they must start over. At 30, individual

raises both hands in the air before the next

person runs to “key pad” to begin.

• The activity will be timed for 3 minutes.

Stacking it Up

• Using several red delicious apples,

participants must stack the apples end on

end to create a tower that is 5 apples high.

• The tower must remain standing for 3

seconds.

• Individuals will be asked to tally all

successfully stacks.

Closure

• What competition did your team do best in?

Explain your reasoning.

• Did everyone participate fair and ethically?

Explain your response.

Prior to dismissal-leave one card taped to

desk, turn it’s match in to Ms. Quattro. Turn in

ALL markers. Make sure tower tables are

clean, puzzles unassembled, and straws are in

their bags for the next class.
