Why still use cotton-canvas tents, why has there been so little development?
• climatic and cultural acceptance
• no shelter departments and few specialists
• subject is highly politicised in each organisation, and within departments
Shelter Centre is funded 2006-2011 by DFID and USAID to produce standards and prototypes that illustrate the standards

A panel of Consortium members will present the performance standards to interested manufacturers at the 'Aid and Trade' event, to be held 29 - 30th January 2008 at PALEXPO, Geneva
With total transparency, manufacturers will be told of the plan to improve the quality and availability of emergency transitional family shelters
Further presentations will be considered for similar events
