Annual Shelter Research ConferenceResearchers agree projects with humanitariansManagement of review processConference scheduled next to Shelter Meeting

Technical Project Working GroupsReview each project

FundingSupport for research proposals from NGOs, UN bodies and RC members creates a strong position from which to seek funding

Q1: Is this the right approach?

Q2: Do you want to participate?

Q3: We will propose some priorities for research:Do you agree with these?Do you have others to add?

Proposed approach

Assessment• of demand within regions for hubs: ‘pull not push’• of existing regional initiatives and organisations

Pilot project• choose one suitable region• run a regional meeting, training, research conference• external impetus to catalyse a sustainable initiative

Objective of regional hubs on every continent• connected to each other on the Internet• direct B2B communication between regions

Shelter Centre is developing, in collaboration with NRC, a new ‘case study machine’

It will include all case studies available publically

The new approach to supporting operational decision-making is surrounding the case studies with related guidance, standards, checklists, evaluations, training materials and other case studies

3. Case study machine

Common challenges to using case studies:

• they offer only one dimension of information

• only a few are usually generated in each format before each project ends

• they are stored in different locations and are not related
