David Smith
Why We Choose him ?
• Other artists are about painting or drawing, but David Smith is different from them. He looked like designer and we think he is interesting.
Biography
• He was born in Decatur, Indiana on 9th March 1906. Smith grew up in Ohio, the place that his father Harvey did the Paulding Telephone Company and his mother Golda taught school. He studied at the University of Notre Dame, but he dropped it and joined the Art Student League of New York in 1927. He liked Picasso, Mondrian, Kandinsky and the Russian Constructivists. Smith started learning himself to be a sculptor. He had done many modern art works.
Major Work
• Cubi XXVIII, is the name of the last of the Cubi series of heavy metal sculptures that were created by Smith. Formerly housed at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, On Noverber 9, 2005. The Sculpture was the most expensive work of contemporary art ever. Pillar of Sundays, pruduced in August 1945, was inspired by Smith's memories of event, rituals, foods, and sounds associated. His mom was active in the Methodist Episcopal church.
