FROM THE BOARD CHAIR AND THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICERWOW! What an incredible summer this has been. Our award-winning Nora A.Kreger Camp Kadima did it again — delivered an awesome camp experience toover 800 kids. This “Summer of Games” was a summer of new friends, newmemories, new experiences and the most fun ever.

DOUBLE WOW! This summer of 2015 also will be remembered as a major milestone in David Posnack JCC’s successful saga. For the first time in the 33-year history of the JCC Maccabi Games®, our JCC was a host venue for 1,800athletes and coaches and over 5,000 spectators. The theme that was interwoven throughout the entire three-year preparation period for this incredible event was: It takes team work to make a dream work, and that’s exactly what it took. One-thousand community volunteers, 800 host families, hundreds of JCC staff, and the participation of local businesses, corporations, organizations and municipalities, all working together, made it happen.

We want to say a huge thank you to all our sponsors, volunteers, host families and supporting agencies, and an even bigger thanks to the dedicated JCC staff for taking on the challenge and making it the best Games ever.

As we look toward the fall, we look forward to the beginning of a very exciting cultural arts season that ushers in ourDiane & Barry Wilen Jewish Book Festival featuring authors Andy Cohen, Dave Barry, Sue Monk Kidd and Barney Frank, among many others.

We wish our JCC family a very happy and healthy new year. The only thing left to say is: let the season begin …

GettThe Trial of Viviane AmsalemWednesday, October 14 | 7:30 p.m.Join us for a film with panel discussion afterward. In this powerhouse courtroom drama, an Israeli woman,

seeking to finalize a divorce from herestranged husband, finds herself effectively put on trial because of thecountry’s religious marriage laws. InIsrael, there is neither civil marriagenor civil divorce; only Orthodox rabbis can legalize a union or its dissolution, which is only possiblewith the husband’s full consent. This

official Israeli submission for the Oscar, with a powerfulperformance by co-director Ronit Elkabetz, exposes the in-equality and dysfunction of the archaic practice of the gett. The film tells the story of a group of WW2 pilots who volunteered to fight for Israelin the War of Independence. As members of “Machal” – volunteers from abroad –this band of brothers turned the tide of the war, preventing the possible annihilationof Israel at the moment of its birth; and also laid the groundwork for the Israeli AirForce. It is the first major feature-length documentary about the foreign airmen inthe War of Independence. The film voices interviews with pilots from the 1948 war,as well as leading scholars and statesmen, including Shimon Peres, to tell an extraordinary, little-known tale with reverberations up to the present day.Tickets: DPJCC Members $8 | Community $10For tickets call 954-434-0499, ext. 336 or visit www.dpjcc.org

Maccabi Tzair Tikva is a branch of Maccabi World Union, a Jewish youth movement whose directive is to pass on Jewish culture and traditions to everyone in the Tnua (our youth movement),

helping them find and strengthen their Jewish identity and connection to Israel — and ultimatelygiving them a sense of belonging to the Maccabi Tzair Tikva family. Our madrichim (leaders) have been

trained to guide the young chanichim (kids) and bring a special meaning to the meetings, programs and events. We havegroups for every age level with age appropriate activities within eachgroup.

Tikva (Grades K-8)Saturdays • 1-4 p.m.Our older chanichim meet every week with their friends andmadrichim and engage in an experience based on non-formal educationthrough the use of games and entertainment. Chanichim are encouragedto connect with nature and participate in social interactions with theirfriends. Together, they learn and develop an identity as part of the Jewishcommunity. Field trips, sleepovers and many special events are plannedfor them to have an unforgettable time.

School of Madrichim (Grades 9-10)Saturdays • 1-4 p.m.SOM is a year-long program where leadership skills are taught throughnon-formal education to train and enable this age group to becomemadrichim in the Tnua (youth movement). SOM’s main goal is for theteens to establish a sense of belonging, develop friendships, increase Jewish identity and global awareness. They will also learn about cultureand leadership, all of which will enable the soon-to-be madrichim to become well-rounded individuals with strong values to practice andteach. Participants in this program will be awarded a leadershipcertificate along with service hours (at least 300 per year).
